Annual bike rodeo will be held Saturday in Port Perry It's time for young cyclists to saddle up, and take part in the Port Perry Ambulance Association's annual bike rodeo. : The second edition of the fun event takes places Saturday morning (June 5) in the parking lot at Reid's Independent Grocer, on Hwy. 7A near Water St. Participants are invited to come and ride through a challenging course that helps get them acquainted with and practice 'the principles of safe cycling. Organizer Jeff Wright said riders aged four to 13 will be required to prop- erly start and stop their bikes, as well as safely mounting and dismounting bikes and using hand signals, among other challenges. The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants must have a bike, and a proper helmet to take part. For partici- pating, each rider will receive a photo ID card acknowledging their successful completion of the course, courtesy of State Farm Insurance. In addition, there will be draws for. Prizes, including bikes, helmets, first aid kits, and videos. oo Organizers have had help from a number of business and organizations, who have donated prizes and other sup- port. They include Rural/Metro Medical Services, Flieler's Petro Canada, Ridge North Realty, the Scugog Firefighters, Port Perry Ambulance Association, the Port Perry Dental Centre, and Bryce Philp. Theft ring suspects in court Twelve men charged in connection with a $3 million theft ring made an appearance in an Oshawa court last week. The accused, including seven Scugog Township men, all appeared in court May 25 and were remanded to June 15. The men face charges in connection with a construction equipment theft ring that police estimate involved property worth more than $3 million. A joint investigation between Durham Regional Police and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), dubbed "Project Digger", began in Scugog, and spread to other parts of the province. Officers from the OPPs Provincial Auto Theft Team (PATT) executed 24 search warrants, and recovered more than 40 pieces of machinery. Also seized were three restricted guns, including a fully automatic AK-47 assault rifle and two SKS military assault rifles, in pos- session of a Scugog man.
