Sympathy is extended to her husband Jack, children John, Natalie, Bryan and Bryce and their families, to her brother Ralph and Linda Honey and their family of Port Perry area and to Don and Marjorie Green and their family. Visitation was on Thursday and the large- ly attended funeral was held on Friday afternoon at the St. John's Anglican Church. Helen will be so greatly missed in so many circles of our community. Sympathy to Peggy and Ralph Larmer and family on the passing last week of Peggy's cousin Dorothy Almond of Oshawa. Her funeral was held on Friday afternoon. Quite a number of former classmates at Blackstock High School attended the visitation or memorial service for Bob Sheffield of Oshawa who passed away last week. The family of George and Marilyn Cochrane held a sur- prise barbecue in honour of their parent's 40th wedding anniversary. Friends and fami- ly members attended this happy occasion. The day was spent with games, vis- iting and of course lots of deli- cious food. The Blackstock Women's Institute met on Wednesday at noon to journey to Oshawa to visit the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration. There they viewed 30 new Canadians from 15 different countries become Canadian citizens. His Honour Lucienne Robillard gave a very interest- ing address to all present. All Women's Institute mem- bers were given the opportunity to reaffirm their citizenship. It was a very interesting and worthwhile meeting. St. John's News By Colin Beal A big thank you to Fred and Cathie King from all of us at St. John's, for hosting our Rogation service on Sunday morning. Rogation is when a blessing is bestowed on our animals, seeds, soil, machinery, etc. so that we may enjoy a bountiful harvest. The mem- bers of St. John's also brought their dogs to the service so that they could receive the blessing. We had a large turnout to cele- brate Rogation and we all enjoyed the beautiful sunny day that Mother Nature treated us to. Father Hugh spoke to us about the responsibility God has given us to take care of our planet, earth. Sitting in the beautiful country, at the Kings' farm, really made us realize how much we will lose if we don't take better care of God's gifts to us. After the service everyone enjoyed a pot luck lunch. Road Watch is a community response effort to help everyone drive safely on our roads. If you see someone driving aggressively, speeding, cutting in and out of lanes, etc., just take down the license number and report the situation to "Road Watch." Seagrave Church News Once again the church annu- al yard and bake sale was a resounding success and the weatherman certainly cooper- ated with a near perfect week- end. The Stewards wish to thank all those who helped in any way and for the good folk who provided the baked goods. Of course we all extend a big thank you and our appreciation to Len and Betty Somerville, who traditionally donate their spacious ground for the church to hold its annual two day event. A number of the Seagrave folks attended the annual Greenbank Sunday School Anniversary this past Sunday. Both the teachers and students presented a very stimulating and fine service. The highlights of the service were the "Singing Puppets" who sang two numbers and a clown (Joyce Lamer) who had a talk with God as she said the Lord's Prayer. The students received attendance pins and certificates. There will be no church service on Sunday, June 13 when Pinedale is holding their Sunday School Anniversary at 11 a.m. The theme is "be a good neighbour." The Scugog Shores Museum Sunday Evening Musicals will continue on Sunday, June 13 at the Scugog Shores Museum at 7:30 p.m. The U.C.W. will entertain at the Port Perry Nursing Home birthday party on Thursday, June 17 at 2 p.m. That's the news for this week.
