It's on Townline Rd. help for new swimming pool Seniors harassed by youths By Jeff Mitchell Port Perry Star Residents of a seniors apartment building in Port Pérry are calling upon township council to take action against marauding youths who they say are out of control. . In a letter to council, Helen Campbell says young people are treating residents of the building at 61 Ash St. with "utter contempt". Mrs. Campbell, who says she wrote the letter on behalf of residents in the build- ing, said kids congregate to ride bikes and skateboards, vandalize cars, and even taunt residents. "If the parents cannot control or don't care about these young people, we feel that some measures have to be taken," she writes. "We need a curfew in this town until this situation is under con- trol." Ward 2 Councillor Ken Carruthers, who represents the 'neighbourhood in south, Port Perry, said he sympathizes with the residents' plight. But he won- ders what the municipality can do to address their concerns. "I think what the building needs is security," he said. "But in all fairness, that's probably an expense they don't want to go to." McClelland Port Perry Star Is there enough community support for a new municipal swimming pool in Port Perry? _ That's a question the township's parks and recreation committee will be trying to answer after hearing from a delegation of moms who say their kids badly miss Birdseye Pool since the decision a month ago to shut that facility for good. Margaret Serres, Lori Pett and Lori Honey told committee members Monday morning they believe there is plenty of interest and support for a RY pool, and they are willing to help get the ball rolling towards such a goal. : "We want to help, do whatever we can for a new pool. There's no doubt there is enough interest to raise funds," said Mrs. Pett, who has three children aged 8 to 13. Please turn to page 14 CANADIAN CANADIAN TIRE Port Perry Plaza AR rrr ae
