Patrick O'Reilly, a long-time volun- teer with a number of efforts and agen- cies, was among those honoured at a special ceremony at Queen's Park on Canada Day (July 1). - Mr. O'Reilly has offered his time and talents to a variety of non-profit causes for more than 30 years, volunteering as a board member, fundraiser and public spokesman. Most recently he acted as chair of the Canadian Mental Health Association, the Children's Services Council, and CHIMO of Victoria, Dugham and Haliburton, a children's mental health agency. Mr. O'Reilly also devotes time to the homeless and disadvantaged, particu- larly refugees seeking to make a new start in Canada. Another local recipient was Nicole Dell, of Oshawa, a community leader and role model for the developmentally disabled. She is active in local schools, a women's shelter, and an activity cen- tre for the elderly. Lieutenant Governor Hilary Weston presented medals to the recipients at the noon hour ceremony, part of the annual Canada Day celebration at Queen's Park. Established in 1973, the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship recognizes and encourages the virtues of good citi- zenship by honouring Ontarians who have made outstanding public contri- butions through exceptional long-term efforts. Nominations are made by individu- als and community organizations across Ontario. Since 1973, 320 people have received the award. Summer camps on at Island museum School's out, and it is time for some fun in the sun. Local youngsters are invited to join the Scugog Shores Historical Museum this summer for Island Adventures. It is not too late to register for the muse- um's four exciting weeks of summer camp. Each week features a different theme to choose from: "Celebrate Good Times, Come on," "Blast from the Past," "Fish Stories and Folklore" and "Another Walk on the Wild Side." Explore superstitions through the ages, experience the great outdoors, endure the hardships and joys of life long ago, participate in old time games, crafts and demonstrations. Come out and join in the fun. Summer camp will be held at the museum the last two weeks of July and second and third 'week of August. Island Adventures is open to kids aged six to 11. Camp hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with drop off and pick up after 8:30 a.m. and before 4:30 p.m. Children must pre- register at the museum or the Township of Scugog Clerk's Office.
