J. PETER HVIDSTEN/PORT PERRY STAR A BASSMANIA Professional Bass Tournament was held this past weekend on Lake Scugog with more than 70 top bass fishermen testing their skills in the murky waters. Goreski's Lakeside Recreation was the location for weigh- ins, with the Championship team for the event was Grant Mills and Rick Verkrvisen with a total catch of 17.35 Ibs. and also the Big Fish, weighing in at 4.80 Ibs. Local riders fare well at Canadian championship Members of the Central Ontario Region of Pony Club show jump- ing and dressage teams finished in the ribbons at the Eastern Canadian Championships on July 23-25 at Black's Equestrian Centre near Hamilton. Show Jumping Tanya Harrison of the Simcoe Pony club was the Advanced level Champion on Kokomo. At the Intermediate level, Jenn Maguire of the Uxbridge-Scugog Pony Club was Reserve Champion on Precious, while Kate Webb of the Simcoe Pony Club fin- ished sixth aboard Merlin. In the Novice Division, Michael Durward of Uxbridge- Scugog and his mount Made, Michael Durward of Uxbridge-Scugog on Gerrie Maguyre and Kelly Tindale of Toronto & North York on Sheffield placed first. Central Ontario also took second place in this com- petition with a team made up of Sarah Rae of Victoria on Gentle Ben, Kevin Durward of Uxbridge-Scugog on Aristotle, Sabrina Welter of Toronto & North York on Matter of Faith and Samantha Quinn- Steinberg of the Maple Pony Club on King Michael. In Basic 2 individual competition, Central Ontario riders swept the first four places, with Jenny Rae leading her sister Sarah by a narrow margin, Ashley Minion in third place and Kevin Durward in fourth. Sarah Rae was the Basic 2 Freestyle Champion, with Jenny Rae second and Kevin Durward third. At the Basic 4 level, Central Ontario took third place in the team competition, with a two- person team composed of Beth Murray of the Durham Pony Club on Airborn and Kelly Newell of Toronto & North York on Fitzpatrick.
