| | ! | | CL -- TT -- i HIE "A Family Tradition for 133 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, August 10, 1999 - 11 By Jeff Mitchell Port Perry Star The extraordinary milestone of $50,000 is in sight for organizers of Aquarama, the Port Perry Rotary Club's annual fundraiser for Easter Seals. As of the end of last week 16 teams had signed up to take part in the Aug. 15 event, a fun, wet and wild afternoon that has raised more than $37,000 in the six years it's been held here. And while they all want to be the fastest, the folks assembling teams are working diligently to put Aquarama over the $13,000 mark for this year's edition as well, said organizer Heather Haliburton-Smith. The amount netted by the event has climbed steadily with each edition, peaking at more than $12,000 last year. In its first year, Aquarama raised $1,500. "The teams are really working hard on the highest pledge this year," she Aquarama fundraiser closing in on $50, said Friday. "They all want to be the fastest, but it's very nice to hear they're working on the monetary side of it, too." Aquarama sees competitors climb aboard personal watercraft and whiz around a winding course, with each rider vying for the best time. Entrants raise a minimum of $75 in pledges. The money raised goes to Easter Seals and other children's charities in Scugog and Uxbridge townships. Entrants are still welcome. If you can't assemble a five-member team, individuals are also encouraged to raise pledges and come out to take part. Aquarama will be held, as usual, in Palmer Park on Sunday. Registration and practice runs begin at 9 a.m., and the actual competition is slated to begin at 11 a.m. The entire event should take about three hours. Anyone interested in taking part in the 1999 edition of Aquarama can call Mrs. Haliburton-Smith at 985-8208 during the day, or 985-7870 evenings. ws held Sunday (Aug. 15) at Palmer Park. 000 mark ass] es Participants hope to make a splash when the annual Aquarama event is ES Farm tax | deadline | hearing (LISFIMAN'S| A gallery of functional art Avalon FINANCIAL SERVICES CORP.
