By John "Wally" Nesbitt From Corner Five In an effort to make up for multiple rained out events, Mosport Speedway scheduled a double header weekend for Aug. 21 and 22. With so many races and so little space, we present you with the abridged race recap. The headling event of the weekend was the return of the OSCAAR Super Late Model Series. Rob Clarke in his #49 Monte Carlo has been the dominant force in OSCAAR this year, and reinforced his standings by not only claiming two heat races, but the 50 lap feature event Double the action, double the fun Mosport Speedway scheduled a double-header last weekend in hopes of making up some of the recently washed-out races as well. Chasing Clarke to the line in the finale was Wayne Keeling (#62) and Mosport regular Pee Wee Evans. Port Hope's John Owen crossed the line in fourth followed by the #21 Grand Prix of West Lee Talons. The Ontario Modified Association were also invited guests and they cele- brated their return to Mosport by shar- ing the heat victories among six differ- ent drivers. Local racers Darrin Wrigglesworth, Andy Warbutton, Graham Brown, Larry Jackson and Terry Robichaud plus Varney Speedway's Jason McLellan all earned Please Turn to Page 23 Non Canterbury Common duo Two Canterbury Common residents came back winners after entering in the Ontario Ladies Golf Association (Peterborough District) championship tournament recently. Betty Mumberson and Marnie Rosettis grabbed the 1999 Championship Trophy and new jackets after leading the field with a score of 18-under at the Par 71 Oakland Greens Golf and Country Club in Norwood on July 26. The local ladies competed against approximately 40 other teams of two in the four-ball event. "The course was in excellent shape," said Mrs. Mumberson. "It wasn't the claim '99 OLGA title toughest course we'd ever played, but there was certainly no gimmees either. "We had to play hard to win." Mrs. Mumberson has been playing golf for about seven years now while her partner, Mrs. Rosettis, has been enjoying the sport for almost four years. "We took it up after retiring," said Mrs. Rosettis, a former Air Canada employee. Mrs. Mumberson retired from teaching in Scarborough.
