ACR A it Hi The » i nr en PIR : "A Family Tradition for 133 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, October 19, 1999 - 19 150th anniversary celebrated Burns congregation members mark milestone Last Sunday, Oct. 17 was a Shegial celebration in the life of Burns Church when we commemorated the 150th anniversary of the Burns con- gregation when former mem- bers and friends joined togeth- er in celebration. We were privileged to have as our guest minister The Rev. Scott © McAndless from Leamington. Scott is the great-great-great-grandson of the founder of our congrega- tion, William Heron Sr. who delivered a very inspiring and challenging sermon titled "The Argonauts of '49." Special music by the choir "In All Things Give Him Thanks" and "Great Is Thy Faithfulness." A time of fellowship and refreshments followed in the lower hall. The sanctuary looked beautiful with the many floral arrangements which were on display from the flower festival the previ- ous day. Of special interest to everyone was a beautiful quilt which was on display made by the late Alma English (a for- mer teacher in Ashburn). The large centre panel of the quilt is an embroidered picture of the former church destroyed by firg in 1967, with side panels of each month of the year depicting special events in the life of the church Ashburn area news by Florence A also displaying the different organizations within the con- gregation. Our special thanks and appreciation to Helen Darling (nee Routley) of Kingston, Ontario who brought this quilt to share with the Burns congregation on this special anniversary. More events coming up Sunday, Oct. 24 we will be celebrating Holy Communion with The Rev.
