Since Father Hugh and several of the men of the parish were attending a weekend conference at Geneva Park we were without a priest, half the tenors and basses of the choir and several of the congregation. Without Hugh, there would be no Eucharist but we did have a Sunday ser- vice and Morning Prayer. Ruth Welham-Umphrey conducted the service, Jenny Beal preached, the with birthday greetings. On Saturday, Nov. 6 St, John's will host the annual Fall Roast Beef Dinner. There will be three sit- tings (4:30; 6 and 7 p.m.). Tickets are available from members of the congrega- tion. This is always a happy community event and we hope you plan to attend. Thefollowing evening, Sunday, Nov. 7, the choirs of the Cartwright Churches will gather at St. John's for the annual All Saints Ecumenical BUSINESS | I Directory Phone 985-7383 ® Fax 985-3708 Evensong. This service features the choirs of all the local churches who sing music from their own traditions as they join in worship. It really is a musical and spiritual treat. Following the service, refreshments will be served in the Parish Hall and the clergy, members of the choirs and members of the congregation of the five churches will enjoy a time of fellowship. The W.I. has partnered with Ontario Provincial Police to bring Phonebusters to the pub- lic. Phonebusters are ded- icated to educating the Canadian public about the dangers of telemar- keting. You will find their Hamilton. The Canadian FWIC conference is in Brandon, Manitoba from June 6 to 10 in the year 2000.
