"If we beat the Russians by two, we got the gold," said Mr. Lee. "The Russians had nine shots on our goal, but two went in. We hit their goal posts and crossbar about five times and we got the worst of the penalties.... it was heartbreaking, we lost to them 2-0. "It was a very big dis- appointment." Upon returning home, however, Mr. Lee said his luck changed for the bet- ter when he signed a pro- fessional contract with the American Hockey League's Cleveland Barons. "Cleveland was great... I scored a goal in my first game," the scrappy defenseman recalled. He played the one year with the Barons -- includ- ing a trip to the Calder Cup finals where Cleveland lost the series to a Providence/Rhode Island squad which ral- lied around the goaltend- ing of former Leaf net- minding legend Johnny Bower -- before rescind- ing his pro status and returning to the amateur ranks and the Kitchener- Waterloo Dutchmen. "I made more money playing with the Dutchmen than I did with Cleveland; I could make a more than $100 a week at work and another $150 a week playing hockey... with Cleveland I made From the opening faceoff to the final buzzer last weekend's match between Campkins and Shoppers kept the audience on their feet. The game got off to a great start early on when Shoppers Sean Murray and Chris Jackson forced Campkins goalie Tyler Leach to make some amazing | saves. Then the play went to the other end of the ice where Gaelan Taylor made several amazing stops. However, Cam O'Conner man- aged to put one past Gaelan on a Kyle Geer's netminding saves the day in Shopper's 3-2 victory over Campkins pass out front from Robert Smith to make it 1-0. Then shortly after, Shoppers Ian Page hurried down the ice to pick up a long pass from Chris Boomhour and fire it past the Campkins goalie to tie it up. With only seconds left in the first period Justin Cottrell scored on a pass out front from Josh Page to make it 2-1 Shoppers. At the start of the second period Shoppers continued to put the pressure on but several great saves by Nick McCrae allowed for Campkins to turn it around and score on Shoppers second goalie, "till the end of the game to give Kyle Geer, with the help of Cam O'Connor and Pat McKinlay to make it an even game once again. Then in the middle of the third period Shoppers Chris Boomhour snuck one past the Shoppers goalie with some help from Ian Page to give his team the lead 3- 2. Then with a minute left, hoping to tie up the game, Campkins pulled their goalie and had some amazing scoring opportunities, but Shoppers Kyle Geer was unbeatable, stretching and sliding his team the win 3-2. a: SCUGOG FINANCIAL _] emi 1 LAY (OF SNS AY OF M « Annual RR ° MINIMUM AMOUNTS MAY APPLY "GIC 5.275% 2 YEAR CASHABLE AFTER 120 DAYS 5.00% 1.000 MINIMUM Rates effective 11/29/99 - subject to change without hotice RRSP 5.250% 5.900% 6.050% 6.100% 6.200% "Serving Scugog For Over 20 Years 250 Queen Street, Port Perry ¢ 985-3832 (next to Shoppers Drug Man) Sales and Installation of Doors * Windows ¢ Troughs Reach Industrial Park - Reg. His return, however, to the Senior A ranks was shortlived. "I got hit in the eye during a game in the Soo in 1958 and lost the sight in my right eye." He put off hockey for three years before play- ing Intermediate A hock- ey in Orillia for a few years. "I think I was the first one to use a shield; I wanted to protect my eyes so I took a piece of plexi- glass, heated it up and rounded it and then screwed it to my helmet. I should have patented that idea." A few years later he called it a career, turning to real estate and then to investment groups, which lead him to the purchase of Sunnybrae Golf Course in 1989. "I could stand up for myself, that's for sure. I spent my fair share of time in the penalty box," said Mr. Lee. "Nobody ever went around me, and if they did once, they never did again. I made sure of that and sometimes I had to make my point. "If somebody put their glove in my face I'd give the son of a bitch the same thing back, and maybe a bit more too." * Section 91 (1) Section 8.1 (¢) * Section 9.1 (0) inclusive. * Section 29.8 THE TOWNSHIP OF SCUGOG NOTICE i=" PARKING REGULATIONS FOR WINTER SNOW CLEARING OPERATIONS Please remember that the Highway Traffic Act and the Township of Scugog Traffic By- law No. 32-88 prohibit the following: On street parking for a period longer than 3 hours unless signed otherwise.
