-------- 20 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, December 7, 1999 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" RURAT. RooTs Ball diamonds the to Blackstock Lions We had a most enjoyable turkey dinner Saturday night at our Christmas party at Nestleton Hall. After dinner we formed a circle with choirs and sat and | waited until our name was drawn out of the hat. Then went up to a table and picked a totally unmarked and wrapped gift and opened it in front of every- one. At this point your gift could be confiscated by anyone whose name was drawn after yours. If that occurred you went back to the table and picked a second prize as you had just lost your first one. After this we went back to our tables and the live band started to play the dance music. Had a most enjoyable evening although we had to leave early for another engage- ment. This Wednesday, Dec. 8 there will be a director's meeting at Ken Hudsons. Last Friday night we had the honour of serving at the Lions Bar for the reception of Recent meeting shows most folks want to see more ball diamonds John and Sharyl Anne Andrews who had just been married. We had an introduction about this new found park area. All tables were numbered and then they went through the crowd methodically handing out numbers to those present. We then went to our specific table. First we were to express the type and item we would like in the park and designate the list in order of importance. Second we were to suggest ways of financing the program. Third these were listed in order of importance on a large paper sheet. In regards to type of park - 1. baseball diamonds; 2. soccer field; 3. playground equipment for youth; 4. shuffleboards for seniors, pools and nature trails with flowers were mentioned, also what we could do with the p draw at new Cartwright Fields existing building and 5 - park- ing. If families wish to give a large grant towards the park in honour of a loved one a spe- cific section of the park could be named in their honour. They received one report from each table but everyone later had a chance to make individual comments. These are all suggestions that the committee will have to work with. Another meeting will no doubt be called in January. Friday we 'attended the funeral of Mrs. Norm Renouf, wife of the late Norm Renouf at Wagg Funeral Chapel. We extend our sincere condolences to other members of the family. Joke of the Week Don't you think horse racing is romantic?
