: ' "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 4, 2000 - 23 Port looks to stop its slide when the Bullets visit From Page 22 wrist shot went nowhere, rolling harmlessly off the heel of the stick. It was the kind of opportunity the normally sure-handed Jones would make 99 out of 100 times. The Chiefs added one more late in the frame and once again had a four goal cushion (6-2) to take into the final period. But the MoJacks were not quite ready to call it a night as Adam Metherall went to work at the mid- point of the third with two quick goals -- one on a power play and one with five skaters each. But the MoJacks sealed their own fate for good as Kelvin Coates took a minor for holding and a five- minute major for cross-checking with 6:50 to play. The Chiefs used their vaunted power play to fire three pucks (Barry Taylor with one and Brad Ogley with a pair) behind Mackie in the final three minutes to end it with the 9-4 lead. SLAPSHOTS: With just one point in their last four games (an OT loss to the Merchants Dec. 22) the MoJacks have dropped to fourth place in the Central League standings with 27 points. They are three ahead of the Merchants, one back of Georgina and five behind second-place Uxbridge. The Chiefs own first and Bobcaygeon dwells deep in the basement. The top four teams make the playoffs. Every point is critical now as the season starts to wind down (the MoJacks have about a dozen games left) and that's why the head coach wants to use Tuesday night's practice to re-group his guys and re- focus their thinking in a positive manner. Blue liner Darren Forbes will have his right ankle x- rayed early this week after taking a shot in the first period. He said after the game the ankle was very sore and tender but if there are no cracked bones he'll suit up for the games against the Bullets and Bruins. Matt Glen missed the game due to injury and sniper Ryan McQuade was away on a winter vacation. Coach Thornbury said the MoJacks will not be taking the last place Bullets lightly when they meet in Port Perry Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. "They (Bullets) are quite capable of defeating any team at any given time," he remarked. As for the Bruins Friday night, the coach noted that the rivalry is always intense when these teams hook up. the MoJacks have taken five of six points from the Bruins in three games to date this season. The MoJacks will have a new face in the line-up this week. Mark McPherson, a | 7-year old Durham College student has signed with the team. He plays defense and brings size (6' 3" - 220 pounds) and toughness to the game. He's a native of Wiarton where he's been playing Jr. C this season. He found the drive back and forth too much and approached the MoJacks a couple of weeks ago about a chance to join the line-up. Manager Murray Parliament secured his release from Wiarton and signed him to a card. The MoJacks will send three players -- forward Adam Metherall, defenseman Jeff Clarke and netmin- der Jeff Mackie -- to the all-star games this coming weekend. Game one is Saturday night in Little Britain with the skills event starting at 7 p.m. Game two is Sunday afternoon in Campbellford at 2:30 p.m. as the best from the Central League meet the best from the Empire (eastern) Loop. = The MoJack"s home game this Thursday night against Bobcaygeon gets underway at 8:30 p.m. Port tops Bowmanville 7-0 From Page 22 onds, from Scott St. Cyr from Henry and Gibson. Northminster replied with a goal, and Port took the lead again with Whiteway letting his cannon go, assisted by St. Cyr and Gibson. Northminster tied it up late in the third to take it into an exciting overtime shoot-out. In game #3, Port took no mercy on their Bowmanville opponents, trouncing them 7-0. Goal scorers were Jack Bruton, Jeremy Griffin, Brent Henry (2), Dustin Parker, Scott St. Cyr, and Mark Baldwin. A Great effort boys. Special thanks to Brent Henry, our MVP, and Dane Thompson, Tommy Whiteway, and Jack Bruton for doing a great job of filling in for us. py FACTORY MATTRESS Have the Lest Ress for Less 1650 Bayly Street, Pickering, Ontario (303 837-0288 220-2282 Lakeview Dry Cleaners - 1888 Scugog 7A, Port Perry 985-1329 or 1-877-437-3779 Carpet & Blind Cleaning Available Dry Cleaning on Premises SIGNS & LETTERING CUSTOM SNOAVMIBLE. #7 5 & GRAPUCS 180 CASIMIR ST.
