Oshawa Trustee Susan Shetler has asked that her motion go forward in spite of a report from superintendent Laura Elliott which stat- ed, in part, that problems with security and unwanted persons in Durham District School Board facilities are being handled well by principals, staff, and, when needed, the police. The report was drawn up after the Dec. 6 board meeting in which Ms Shetler - whose outside job is that of civilian volunteer coor- dinator for the Durham Regional Police - put forth a motion to lock school entry doors. The superintendent's report, received by trustees last week, stated that secondary school principals currently give letters of notice to trespassers and, when necessary, Please Turn to page 17 Province begins talks with doctors By Chris Hall Port Perry Star Talks between the province and its doc- tors on a new contract are scheduled to begin today, and topping the list of items to be dis- cussed will be possible changes to the way Ontario's physicians will be paid. Ministry of Health officials and represen- tatives from the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) will be gathering this week to hammer out a new contract, a process which could hit a few snags, says local physician Mike Gilmour. The accident occurred Sunday afternoon on one of the canals south of the Lake Scugog causeway. Three snowmobilers POSE iareds over weekend Accidents frustrate firemen By Chris Hall Port Perry Star Three people were taken to hospital and treated for vari- ous injuries last weekend after three separate snowmobile accidents on Lake Scugog. Eniergency crews were called out twice on Saturday and once on Sunday after riders hit pressure cracks or open water. Scugog Firefighters from the Port Perry station were dis- patched twice to areas just off Seven Mile Island, on the western shore of Scugog Island, after riders hit a pressure crack and were thrown from their machines; injuring them- selves. Both male victims suffered back injuries. The accidents occurred just after 2:30 p.m., and then shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday. The following day, Port Perry firefighters were called to the swampy area at the south end of the Island around 2 p.m. after two snowmobiles hit open water.
