MoJacks behind the count Port Perry trails the Georgina Ice 2-0 after 3-1, 6-2 losses in Junior C playoff action By John B. McClelland Port Perry Star It's gut check time for the Port Perry MoJacks. Time to find out if this team has any sand, grit, or......dare we say it, any pride. After battling so hard for second- place and home-ice advantage in the opening round of the Central Jr. C hockey playoffs, the MoJacks seem to have forgotten just what that struggle was all about. They now trail the Georgina Ice 2-0 in a best-of-seven affair, and unless this team shows a marked change of attitude from what was displayed on home ice Sunday night, this series could be over in four straight. The Ice won the series opener 3- | Friday night in Keswick and then totally dominated the MoJacks 48 hours later in a 6-2 win at the Scugog Arena. It was a dismal effort by the green and white in front of one of the largest crowds to see a Junior C game in Port Perry in the last several years. The 6-2 score may even flatter the MoJacks as the Ice put their game on cruise control through much of the final period. About the only thing one can say in the MoJacks' favour is that this was not in character -- at least not the char- acter this team displayed on many occasions through this past season when they battled adversity and came out on top through inner toughness. Head coach Tom Thornbury did- n't mince his words in describing his squad's performance after Sunday's loss. "We were going in all different directions out there. It looked more like a training camp scrimmage." Of six periods of hockey so far in the series with the Ice, he said the MoJacks have played decently in two, maybe three of them. However disappointed he may be, Thornbury is not one to dwell too long on the past and he said Tuesday night's practice will give himself and assistants Scott Pinkerton and Sam Thornbury a Turn to Page 24 step and was too old, and ta d g their cue like the sheep that they are, 'the fans bleated their appr In the end, the situation ! nally ot SC Port Atoms defeat Lindsay 6-3 The Port Perry Atom | team, who are now in round-robin playoffs, hosted the Lindsay Muskies Feb.17.
