The program will place 800 students, from across the country, with host fam- ilies from federal ridings outside their home provinces. The students will work in internships in non-profit organizations, that will require them to speak in their second offi- cial language. With the support of Durham MP Alex Shepherd the Summer Work-Student Exchange will provide students from this area with an opportu- nity to travel and learn their second official lan- guage. The internships will be offered to students, age 16 and 17, in a franco- phone community in either Quebec or Acadia. The program runs frém July 3 to Aug. 1 |. There is no cost to participants, and travel to and from their host community is covered by the program. Interested students can apply on line at www.sum- mer-work.com. During their internship, students are housed by the family of their exchange partner. Essentially, a francophone and an anglophone family swap kids for six weeks.
