It's a Blues Party this Saturday night in Greenbank A Blues Party is being hosted by the one and only Chris Whiteley, and local music lovers are invited. Chris Whiteley"s Blues Party takes to the stage Saturday, March 18, as the Greenbank Folk Music Society presents the latest in its series of shows for the 1999-2000 season. For more than 25 years Chris Whiteley has been writing and recording blues, swing and roots music, both as a instru- mentalist - on trumpet, harmonica, guitar and pedal steel - and as a vocalist. Along the way he's worked and recorded with artists including Leon Redbone, John Hammond, blues piano great Blind John Davis, Canadian country stars Prairies Oyster, and folk legend Tom Paxton, among others. He's appeared on numerous television and radio shows, and along with wife Caitlin Hanford was nominated for a Juno in 1985. He has appeared on more than 150 record- ings. In 1999, Chris Whiteley released his second solo album, Blues Party. It's been nominated for four Maple Blues awards, including best album. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show at the Greenbank Hall are $16 each, and can be obtained at Jayson Callan Music in Port Perry, and Blue Heron Books in Uxbridge. To reserve tickets or get more information about this show or the society's season, call 985-8351 or 852-7578. Slight tax hike is possible: From page 1 Mayor Moffatt also dismissed any notions that councillors are under the gun to keep increases to a minimum during an election year. Voters will go to the polls to elect their municipal officials this November. Scugog councillors have avoided any signif- icant tax increases for Moffatt the past several years. "If you come up with a 5 per cent tax increase, it doesn't matter what year it is, people will still be screaming at you," said Mayor Moffatt. "We have to do what is absolutely the right thing to do for the town- ship. We have to decide what we want and what we can afford.
