| | | ANP ERR NT RS a man TN, mT "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, March 14, 2000 - 23 Durham Academy of Gymnastics Local gymnasts bring home the hardware at Ameri-Cana meet Recently gymnasts from Durham Academy of Gymnastics competed in the Ameri-Cana Invitational Meet held in Niagara Falls on Feb. 25, 26 and 27. In level 2, ages nine and 10, Silvija Pukitis scored ninth on vault, fourth on bars, fifth on beam and third on floor. Silvija's overall standing was a well-earned fifth place. The advanced competitive recreational - Candette 10A gymnast was none other than Kirsten McLarty who scored second on vault, first on bars, third on beam and first on floor. Kirsten overwhelmed us with a first overall standing. Good work Kirsten. During the Junior event finals - levels 1 and 2, ages nine and 10, Leah Ostermaa ranked seventh on floor. Great job. The advanced competitive recreational - Tiny (eight and nine) A gymnast was Lindsay Bound who ranked I 1th on vault, eighth on bars, second on beam and sec- ond on flor. Lindsay proudly sported an overall standing of eighth place. Junior event finals - levels | and 2, ages Il and 12 - Kayla Gray was amazing on bars taking second place. Pre-competitive - 8B - In this group, we had Jazmine Crouter with an eighth on vault, a fourth on bars, a first on beam and a 10th on floor. Jazmine ranked first overall. Jessica Duck ranked ninth on vault, sixth on bars, seventh on beam, 2th on floor for an overall standing of sixth place. Angela Closs ranked 18th on vault, seventh on bars, fifth on beam and I 7th on floor. Angela's overall rank was 15th. Congratulations Jazmine, Jessica and Angela on your excellent performances. Pre-competitive - 7B. Lauren Power and Rachel Baker were exceptional. Lauren ranked fifth on vault, third on bars, seventh on beam and seventh on floor for an overall position of seventh place. Rachel stood fourth on vault, sixth on bars, eighth on beam and eighth on floor placing her eighth overall. Good work girls. In Level I, ages nine and 10, Leah Ostermaa ranked second overall with a fourth on vault, fourth on bars, fifth on beam and first on floor. Nicole Prosser took a seventh on vault, an eighth on bars, an eighth on beam and a fourth on floor for an overall standing of 10th. A job well done. Level 2, ages || and 12 - Kayla Gray was superb with a ninth on vault, second on bars, seventh on beam and fourth on floor. Kayla took the position of sixth overall. Way to go Kayla. Congratulations to all the gymnasts. An outstanding showing for the first invita- tional competition of the season. In other gymnastics news, the Metro East Region second Provincial Qualifying Meet was hosted by Winstonette Gymnastic Club recently and once again, the girls of Durham Academy of Gymnastics managed to place within the top 10 positions. Novice | - Lea Ostermaa ranked sixth on vault, seventh on bars, eighth on beam, eighth on floor and 10th overall. Nice work Leah. Regional 9 - Lindsay Bound landed second on vault, second on bars, third on "beam, first on floor for an overall rank of second place. Good work Lindsay. Regional 10 and 11 - Kirsten McLarty placed fifth overall with a fourth on vault, a second on bars, a fourth on beam and a fifth on floor. Way to go Kirsten. Pre-Novice |- Nicole Prosser ranked 13th on vault, eighth on bars, sixth on beam and fourth on floor. Nicole's overall rank was ninth. How to be Nicole. High = Triple With Lorraine MAKING PAYMENTS: Fields of Dreams organizer Frank Fielding presented Scugog Councillor Ken Carruthers (Park and Rec committee chair/Ward 2) with a cheque for $10,000 recently, as part of their agreement to reimburse council for the $50,000 they borrowed to install lights at the Carolyn Best - Ball Diamonds behind Scugog Arena. The lights were put up four years ago, and only a small amount remains to be paid back to council. Funds for the lights are raised each summer when the Fields of Dreams tournament is held at Scugog's ball diamonds with competitors coming all across Southern Ontario.
