She'll be in France as a chaperone for Port Perry High School stu- ! dents who are taking a March Break trip to Europe. More than 20 local students, as well as their counterparts from three other Durham secondary schools, departed for London, England on March 8. There, they will take in the sites until March 13, when they travel to France for a few days before returning to London to | catch their return flight to Canada on | March 16. | The historical Vimy Ridge site, normal- | ly closed to the public at this time of year, | will be opened for the special presenta- tion on March 13. At that time, Mrs. Lee will present Legion and Canadian flags to officials, as well as the plaque. It reads: "In remem- brance of those who served at Vimy Ridge, from the veterans and members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 419, by Bronwen Tuck RD Nutrition Pros™ Nutrition on the Web Port Perry, Ontario, Canada". "It's a great, great honour for me to do this for the Port Perry Legion," said Mrs. Lee last week, a day before embarking on her trip. Local Legion officials are also excited about the opportunity to pay tribute to those who fought and won the battle for Vimy Ridge. It's been described as one of the most significant events in Canada's journey from colony to nationhood. "It's always great to go and remember them, to honour them," said Geoff Taylor, public relations officer for the Port Perry Legion. "It's great that the students are getting over there to see the sites and where some of the battles took place. We're always in support of that." Almost 3,600 Canadian soldiers lost their lives and more than 7,000 were wounded in action at Vimy between April 9 and 14, 1917. The assault saw some 100,000 Canadian soldiers attack the hill near the Northern France town of Arras to dislodge firmly entrenched Germans. The Germans had turned away attacks on several previ- ous occasions. After six days of fighting the Canadians, along with British allies, drove German forces away from Vimy Ridge and the towns of Arras and Aisne. Marion Lee and Geoff Taylor display the plaque Mrs. Lee is to place at the Vimy Ridge memorial site. | NORTH RIDGE EXCAVATIN I, Looking for a great website to take the confusion out of nutrition news?
