ARM yobs "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, April 4, 2000-13 Request sent to committee By John B. McClelland Port Perry Star The Community Memorial Hospital Foundation is asking for a financial contribution from the township again this year. Foundations reps Gail Kerry and Cindy Lister made the request last week. They are look- ing for council to dupli- cate the $5,000 the municipality contributed in 1999. Mrs. Kerry said the foundation has plans to spend some $377,000 for new equipment over two years. The provincial government makes no contribution to equip- ment purchases. 'She told council that if the township agrees to the request for $5,000, the money would be ear- marked for a new "trau- ma stretcher" for the emergency department. One reason why the equipment has such a hefty price tag is a spe- cial design to allow a Hospital seeks 55,000 grant from township patient to be x-rayed while on the stretcher. Mrs. Kerry told coun- cillors that the Lakeridge Hospital in Port Perry enjoys a very high approval rating from patients. The amount of surgery done at the hos- pital continues to rise, and visits to the emer- gency department are up 11 per cent this year over 1999, she said. With council wrestling with a possible 4.9 per cent tax hike this spring, the request was referred to budget discussions. However, the delega- tion was very well received, with several councillors commenting that the local hospital is among the finest of its size anywhere in Ontario. "As one who has spent a lot of time (in the hospital) as a patient, | really hope we can find that $5,000," said Ward 2 rep Ken Carruthers. a i Lever rerIVYIVYYYYYY ¢ My Country Bungalow ¢ v $v FOLK ART CLASSES ¢ OPEN HOUSE & REGISTRATION Sat., April 8, 10:00am - 3:00pm Sun., April 9, 10:00am - 1:00pm €¢¢¢¢eeeeee Beginners & Experienced Painters LESSONS & SUPPLIES AVAILABLE Ww Call Leslie at (905) 985-0546 10521 Old Simcoe Rd., RR2 Port Perry Ww €¢¢€¢ee VYVVVVVVVIVIVIVIIVIVIIVIIIVIIIIY 54 295 VINYL SIDING T-3 white per sq.
