"Scugog"s Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, April 4, 2000 - 27 Scugog Hockey League's 1999-2000 season comes to an end next weekend with Championship Saturday BCA vs Taylor Ford for the SHL crown By Jon Sanders Scugog Hockey League Pineridge Sports 3 Monsma Electric | In the final day of SHL competition before the championship matchups, many positions were yet to be determined includ- ing the 'A' final as well as the infamous toilet bowl contest. With Pineridge Sports doing everything possible to avoid playing in the bowl game, they were successful as they defeated Monsma Electric by a score of 3-1. Pineridge attacked early as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Finding the net was Lee Wilbur, Kelly Lee and Scott Heasman. Monsma did get on the board late in the third period when John Mackey connected off of a nice pass from Jeff Card but it would not be enough as Pineridge was able to avoid a trip to the toilet bowl game. B. Callery & Associates | Compton Communications | When a position in the championship final is at stake, it often brings out the best in SHL teams. B. Callery & Associates had to come out with at least a tie against Compton Communications and that is what they did as they finished in a 1-1 draw. Mike McQuade found the net for the Associates, while Duane Empringham did the damage for Compton. A big courtesy of the Associates is what will allow them to play in the big game next week, while Compton has their sights set on a win in the 'B' final. Taylor Fuels 2 Square Boy Pizza | After an entire season of failing to deliver, Square Boy Pizza assured them- selves of a spot in the toi- let bowl game as they were defeated by Taylor Fuels 2-1. A combination of poor offense and far from solid defensive work by the pizza boys allowed Dave Mann to find the net twice for Taylor Fuels. Bill Page had the only goal for the pizza boys but it was not enough as they are off in search of porcelain glory. K.C.I. Gas Bar 6 Cedar Creek Contracting | This season featured the first SHL tournament and if there is anything that we can learn from the tournament is that a vic- tory there does not guar- antee playoff success. After falling to K.C.1. Gas Bar by a score of 6-1, Cedar Creek Contracting assured themselves a place in the 'F' final where they will meet Square Boy Pizza in a prime time matchup between two SHL heavy- weights. This contest will feature a family rivalry as the brothers Fitzgerald will fight for family pride against their father Carl making the stakes even higher. of goals, Most of the damage in this game by K.C.l. was done in the third period as Dean Smith had a pair while Phil McBride, Dave Roth and Jarett Harman added sin- gle markers. Dave Cini was also able to find the net for K.C.I. as he opened the scoring. Finding the net for the bowl bound Contractors was Mike Clarke who took a nice pass from Greg Fitzgerald. This would not be enough as K.C.I. sends the Contractors to the bowl game. Van & Truck World | Harrison Fuels | Staying out of the toilet bowl game is not an easy task in the SHL. While, acutally itis unless you are a struggling team such as Harrison Fuels. However, with a clutch per- formance against Van & Truck World, they got the tie that they needed and they will now compete for the 'E" championship. Van & Truck World opened the scoring when Mike Passmore came through offensively assist- ed by Mike Geer. Harrison Fuels responded when Steve Dunn found the net after taking a nice feed from Darcy Milligan to help Harrison stay out of the bowl game. Goreski Roofing | Taylor/Ford Mercury | The final game of the day featured the dominant force of the SHL in Taylor/Ford Mercury tak- ing on a solid team in Goreski Roofing. This defensive battle finished in a l-1 tie and it was Taylor/Ford opening the scoring early in this game as they wasted no time sending the Roofers the message they are indeed at the top of the SHL when it comes to offense as well as defense. Bill Bridge did the dam- age assisted by Wayne Norton, but it was the Roofers who came back when Scott Wilbur found the back of the net after being nicely set up .by Ryan Ridgway to close the scoring as this game fin- ished in a |-1 tie.
