The dance will be held on June 10 on the arena floor in Port Perry and will begin at 8 p.m. The premises will be licensed, food is being provided and a designated driver ser- vice will be available free of charge. Entertainment is being provided courtesy of The Travelling Wilburs, so a fun-filled and suspenseful evening is expected. Although | this event has not been held in Port Perry for many years, in previous years there was an instance of one gentleman arriving at just before midnight in his pajamas as friends had called to tell him his name was still in the draw with only a few names left to pull. Tickets are now available for sale, and may be purchased at K.C.1./Sunys, The Framer's Gallery, or Prince Albert General Store for $20. An individual may buy as many tickets as desired in order to increase chances to win. Each ticket will buy you one chance to win in the draw and allow two people into the dance. The countdown that began with last year's final checkered flag is almost complete as we are now just days away from the start of the 2000 racing season at Mosport Speedway. "And we're ready," declares the Speedway's Race Director, Brian Bassett. "The track is set, our people are in place and we anticipate a very full season. The best news that | can offer is that, according to pre-season registration, our car count is better than ever this year." Bassett credits some rule modifications for the expected expanded fields. "We've made quite a few rule changes, espe- cially in the Late Model division, that should make racing at Mosport more appealing. And we're also working on bettering the purses to hopefully bring in even more competitors." As far as the driver lineup looks for this year, regular Mosport visitors may notice some changes. Class champions Darrin Wrigglesworth (Open Wheeled Modified) and Brad Corcoran (Late Model) plan to return to defend their titles while ThunderCar champion Kyle Donaldson and twice Challenger Champ Steve Knab will practice their trade at other venues. Also reported to be moving on is Late Model driver Bill Kendry, who plans to join the OSCAAR ranks for the 2000 season. Sponsors returning for the new year include Bob's Towing (ThunderCar), Terry Cullwick Auto Service (Challenger) and Advantage Personnel (Late Model). Mosport Speedway will open on May 6 for an open practice weekend with the gates swinging Turn to Page 21 ALMOST THERE: The Port Perry Curling Club rink of, from left, skip Garnet Warriner, vice Jan Towns, second Bill Cornish, and lead Sandra Leach, will be competing for an Ontario title during Senior Mixed provincial playdowns in London this week from April 12-15. Jamie Menzies scores with less than three minutes remaining to give his team the title Taylor Ford takes home 2000 SHL championship By Jon Sanders Scugog Hockey League 'E" Championship Pineridge Sports 3 Harrison Fuels 2 There was plenty of bragg.ng rights at stake when Pineridge Sports and Harrison Fuels took to the ice for the 'E' Championship. Pineridge Sports was able to come out on top 3-2 as three unanswered goals including Ken Smart on the penalty shot as he went five- hole helped them take the game. Tom Barnes and Tony Oxley added the other Pineridge goals, while Karl Durham and Darcy Milligan came through for Harrison Fuels in a losing cause. With this win, Pineridge Sports was crowned as the 'E' Champions of the Scugog Hockey League. 'D' Championship Van & Truck World 5 Taylor Fuels | The 'D" Championship was a one-sided affair as Van & Truck World dominated Taylor Fuels both offensively and defensively resulting in a 5-1 win. Dave Dickson had a big game with four points including one goal and three assists. Jay Adam had a solid game as well as he opened the scoring and added one assist. Other goalscorers for the Truckers included Mike Geer, Terry Bache and the legend, Rick Sheehey. Dave Mann was the only Taylor Fuels player to find the net in this aggressively played 'D' Championship that was won by Van & Truck World. 'C' Championship Monsma Electric 3 Goreski Roofing 2 With the elusive "C' Championship on the line it was no surprise to see Monsma Electric and Goreski Roofing pulling out all the stops in search of 'C" final glory. Unfortunately only one of these two SHL pow- erhouses could come out as "C' Champions and that title went to Monsma Electric as they edged out the Roofers by a final score of 3-2. Monsma opened the scoring when Rick Penstone found the net as he has done on a consis- tent basis this season. The Roofers answered back with a pair of goals as Ryan Ridgway came through offensively with a nice unassisted effort and the other Roofer goal went to Warren Geer after he was set up nicely by Scott Wilbur and Paul Goreski. Knowing full well that the chance to be 'C' Champions was up for grabs, Monsma Electric turned their game up and came back with a pair of goals courtesy of Jeff Card and offensive threat John Mackey to take this game by a score of 3-2 ending the Roofers hopes of SHL glory and earning the 'C' Championship. Toilet Bowl Championship Square Boy Pizza 6 Cedar Creek Contracting 5 Game after game this season Square Boy's Pizza has failed to deliver in clutch situations and in the toilet bowl championship, they were destined to turn things around against a struggling Cedar Creek Contracting team. This was a very offensively played contest as both teams featured balanced attacks with 11 different goalscorers in the game. The Contractors took the early lead in this game as they ended the first period with a 3-1 lead. Rob Toguri opened the scoring for the Contractors, while Bob Collins and Rob Scott added sin- gle markers as well. Delivering for the Pizza boys was Jamie Lee. In the second period of this classic toilet bowl matchup it was the Pizza boys delivering a pair of goals as Mathew Hobbs scored with a nice move, electing to go to the backhand while on the breakaway. Steve Fox had the other Pizza boys goals in the Turn to Page 21
