For more than three years now, her two daughters have caught a school bus across the road from their Scugog/Manvers Townline Rd. home to travel to the two public schools in Blackstock. She is not officially a resident of Durham Region, living within the jurisdiction of the Trillium Lakelands school board district. But Mrs. King says she does not under- stand why, since she chooses to send her tax dollars to the Cartwright schools, busing for her children is not included. Instead, that portion of her taxes pay for two seats on Trillium Lakelands' buses. Her daughters are enrolled in Grade 8 at Cartwright Central Public School and Grade 10 at Cartwright High School. If they attended the schools they were assigned to geographically, both would be bused to the Lindsay area daily. A recent audit of busing by the Durham board identi- fied the two King children, who were told by board offi- cials they could no longer ride the bus, said Mrs. King. The last day they were to be picked up and dropped off by the Durham bus was Friday (April 14). "Yes, it's my choice to send my kids there. I chose to send them there to a good school, schools 1 like, they like and places they are doing well in," said Mrs. King. "I pay my taxes, my money goes to those schools. Please do not litter municipal roadways or private property. why doesn't bus funding come with the student wherever they go to school? Why isn't it all inclusive?" ~ Mrs. King said she signed a form agreeing to provide transportation for her two children to the Blackstock schools, but didn't see a need to drive them since a Durham bus stopped to pick up other children right across the road from her house, on the Scugog/Manvers Townline Rd. "There's no extra trip needed, they just walk across the road and catch the bus. There's lots of seats on the bus, my girls don't cause any problem at all -- on the bus or at school -- and the bus doesn't have to change its route. What's the problem?" asked Mrs. King. "It all seems kind of silly. I'm not going to uproot my children from schools they like going to, that's insane. It just seems like they don't have the childrens' best inter- est at heart here," said Mrs. King. Lynda Smith, manager of transportation with the Durham District School Board, says the issue is simple. "They don't live in Durham Region, but they go to a Durham Region school so they need to make arrange- ments for their own transportation," Ms Smith said Thursday. "The (Trillium Lakelands board) has a bus in that area which would take them to their own school," she said. "If they make a decision to go to (the Blackstock schools) then I can't bus them." PORT PERRY COMPLETE DENTURE SERVICE Choosing The Right Denturist for You. Whenever someone needs dentures, the first question that comes up is who should you see? On what criteria should you base your choice? Of course, choosing is all the more difficult since you cannot try the product on before you buy. Some consumers assign a lot of importance to price and prompt delivery. However, these two crite- ria alone are not enough to allow an enlightened decision. Indeed, the price of dental prosthesis will always vary because of the personalized work that your mouth requires. Your denturist will most cer- tainly want to confirm the price of your dentures after he completes his preliminary examination. As for the waiting period, it will depend a great deal on the type of denture you need. You can plan on three to seven visits, depending on whether you opt for standard or precision denture. Referral is still the surest way to choose a dentur- ist. Notice the smiles around you. When you see good work that looks natural, ask the denture wearer about comfort and the service he gets from his den- turist. Then call this denturist for an appointment. Be sure to ask any questions that come to mind. The denturist's answers and recommendations should put you on the right track. When was the last time you saw your denturist? 6 High St., Port Perry 985-8028
