a PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 6, 2000 - 25 With an executive committe now in place.... We're making plans for the 72nd annual Regatta Lake Scugog Regatta | called a meeting of the L.S.R.A. Inc. for this past Sunday. We had the official resignation of Raymond Putsey as President and Cathy Handelsperger would contact Dianne Rogers our trea- surer. The ones who met were full of working thoughts to make this our 72 Annual Regatta an out- standing affair for the new mille- nium. Ads, programs, collections to finance the regatta, snack bar and the general running of the 3-day events were on the slate and partially resolved. Next directors meeting will be 7:30 p.m. June 19th. In the meantime we all have jobs to do. Nonquon Canoe Races We the committee were very well pleased with the outcome of Saturdays events. We all had a job and everyone was depend- able in their job which made it a breeze. | personally had a prob- lem at the end of the day with 2 cars still at the starting point. | knew one man had locked his keys in the car and had returned to Oshawa for his spare set, but the other car, where were they?Did they need a ride back from the finishing point? Finally a phone call came through that they had dropped out of the race and were getting to their car by taxi. | received many favourable remarks about our observation boats being clearly marked with the rod and penant. We had canoeists from North Bay, five from London and many more remote locations. Last year we had 52 canoes and this year 101. The committee of last year also did a remarkable job, but this year we were on the internet. We thank merchants for their ads and gifts, all the participants for coming and the weatherman for not giving us a breeze from the south. It's tough when you have paddled down the river at top speed and then hit the lake i Albert | Putsey with lots of waves from the south. | didn't see the score sheet to see how Mayor Moffatt and coun- cillor Gadsden in their canoe made out. Steamboats .
