"Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 27, 2000-9 Greenbank Lions pay tribute to local volunteers By Jeff Mitchell Port Perry Star Greenbank honoured two dedicated citizens when the local Lions Club announced the winners of its annu- al Lloyd and Marion Lee Community Volunteer Award. Ruby Dusty and Rick Trotter were named winners when a special millennium edition of the award, usual- ly given to one person, was announced at Greenbank Hall last Wednesday night (June 21). The evening marked the sixth year that the award has been presented by the Lions to residents who dis- tinguish themselves through community involvement. "Six years ago the Lions Club thought it would be a good idea to recognize a person each year who has faithfully performed good works in the community in various aspects of community life, a person who has given freely of their time and talents over the years without any thought to personal or financial award," said Lion Rodd Foster, who announced the award winners. Nominations are sought from the community, and there is no shortage of deserving entries, said Mr. Foster. "You would be amazed at how many of our citizens could be potential winners of this citizenship plaque," said Mr. Foster. "This "certainly speaks well of our village, and I believe it makes winning this award that much more meaningful." Mrs. Dusty is a long-time resident of Greenbank, and is well-known for her involvement with the. United Church there. Mr. Trotter has been a steady supporter of efforts to make improvements to lanson Park, site of the village's ball diamond and a focal point in the community. This marked the sixth year for the award. has consistently supplied materials and labour to local efforts. Mr. Trotter is now involved in the Lions Club's efforts to build a new parking lot to the south of the hall.
