24 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 27, 2000 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" From Page 23 Mite Blackstock United Church Saints vs Blackstock Lion Cubs 23-18 In a tight game battled right down to the end by Blackstock United Church Saints defeated the Blackstock Lion Cubs 23- 8. The Saints were led by the strong pitching of Stephanie Taylor and James McQuaid while Brad Thompson led the offence with a grand slam and six RBIs. The Cubs were strong on the bats as well as they had three RBIs from Cody Jennings, a home run from Megan = | Moore and a home run from Aaron Wright who also pitched a strong game. Squirt H&M Wright Sox vs Port Perry Sunshine Pool and Fitness 12-8 H&Ms had a great all round game by everyone. Solid defense and hitting by Jamie Novak with more solid defense from Travis Gould. Youngfield Farms vs H&M Wright Sox 22-29 A high scoring game for both teams. Josh Novak led HEM with a homer, triple two doubles and six RBIs. Matt Stewart also chipped in four singles and four RBIs. Mother Jackson Open Kitchens vs Greenbank Bakery 10-19 Great defense by Greenbank with Jordan Travers making an awe- some double play and TJ. Taylor diving for an out at home plate. Brewster Laxton hit a double and Megan Johnston was the top scorer for Greenbank. Good effort by everyone and solid pitching and catching by all. Intermediate Turner's Green Giants VS Greenbank Garden Centre 16-13 Greenbank began the game with a solid double from Traci Thompson and six runs in the first inning. Callan Nesbitt had a dou- ble in the third. Meaghan Rutledge and Callan pitched strongly but couldn't hold Turners who's Kory Prosser hit a double and had five RBIs. Both Niki Jones and James Nieman hit triples and shared the pitchers mound with Kory. Hardball Wright Sox edge Sunshine Pool, Fitness Peewee Bowmanville Glass vs Shaw Industrial 7-5 Bowmanville Glass overcame a 5-2 deficit with five late runs to defeat Shaw Industrial. Shaw managed only four hits including Patrick Wotten"s triple and two singles. Brian Jensen added a single. Wotten had two RBIs while Jack Jones, Corey Hellingman and Brian Jensen contributed an RBI each. The loss dropped Shaw's record to a respectable six wins and three losses while Bowmanville Glass improved to seven and two. Mosquito Firm Transportation vs Memorial Park 24-0 Mercedes Weber stroked two hits and drove in four runs to lead Firm Transportation to a sixth consecutive win. Ryan Eadie had three hits, Brodie Stanfield added a 'pair and Luke Michel crushed a home run. Ryan Dillon and Logan Malcolm each added a single. Thomas Prendergast pitched two scoreless innings with Ryan Eadie and Luke Michel shutting down Memorial Park. . For those inter- ested in a more leisurely approach to riding, there will be ample time both before and after the hour long race at 10 a.m. to ride the trail. Riders are able to try different portions of the trail, from the less difficult to the more challenging routes for some added thrills. All riders must wear helmets at all times. A special bonus for this day is the involvement of Bay Cycle of Pickering. Bay Cycle is offering prizes for participants. The Bare Bones and Bananas event is organized by local moun- tain bike promoters Alpha Racing. Along with this event, Alpha hosts the Giant Five series, as well as the Thursday night recre- ational ride and race at the Bethany site. The ride loca- tion is one mile south of Bethany, on Weston Road (the location is well signed as you approach from every direction).
