"We already consult with the SCCs in a general way on the selection of princi- pals and vice-principals." What he is waiting for is a clearer definition in the role SCCs may play in principal selection. "We may have to see if we must set up a special mechanism for it," Mr. Yeo said. "When Toronto tried this, they had two superin- tendents just to handle that issue. We don't have the luxury of that kind of staff time, so we are wait- ing to hear how the regula- tion reads." Minister Ecker said that the new regulation will set out "clear directions to (SCCs) on their role and responsibilities." "That is, that it seems to be legisla- tion and regulating volun- teers. That bothers me. Not every parent who wants to be involved will have the time for the workload that may be placed on them." As for rumours that this type of regulation may be the beginning of the end for trustees, Mrs. Drew is cautious. "I would hope that this province would look at what happened in New. Brunswick (where trustees were abolished and then reinstated)," she said. "What they did four years ago clearly didn't work, and now they are going back to locally elected representatives." Board chair Doug Ross thinks school trustees will continue to be the peo- ples' representatives. "We were the first form of organized government in this country, and I think, when the dust settles, the public at large sees the value in having elected trustees," he said. It is expected that the regulations will be announced in the fall. Durham Police were called to Shoppers' Drug Mart in Port Perry after a man stole $250 worth of disposal razors. Police report that a man entered the Queen St. drug store around 7:30 p.m. on July 6. When he left approximately 15 min- utes later, he tripped a shoplifting alarm, and ran. Man is sought after stealing $250 worth of disposable razors A quick inventory of the store revealed that the suspect had taken a large quantity of dispos- able razors. He is described as a white male, around 25 years of age, with a slim build and short dark hair. He was wearing a light- coloured jacket and jeans and a T-shirt.
