It is not often that traffic is rerout- ed through Blackstock but indeed that will be happening on July 12. The 25th annual Blackstock Tractor and Truck Pull was a great success enjoying two beautiful evenings without rain - a major feat this year - and great compe- tition. Excellent crowds attended each night to enjoy the enter- tainment. At times there even was some dust which was sur- prising in this year of constant rain. The regular monthly meeting of the Blackstock Agricultural Society will be held this coming Thursday, July 13 at the Town Hall. All members of the board are urged to attend in prepara- tion for the Blackstock Fair and Demolition Derby which will be on Aug. 25 and 26 this year. Sympathy is extended to Jim Bell of Purple Hill and his family Janice, Richard and Cheryl and their spouses and families on the passing of Isabella Bell after a lengthy battle with cancer. For many years Isabelle was very involved in the Guiding Movement as well as the Port Perry Anglican Church. Her funer- al was on Saturday at her church with interment at Yelverton Cemetery. The relatives and friends of a former resident Keith Johnston who, for many years lived in Belleville and recently in Orillia, were saddened to hear of his Blackstock by FW. unexpected death this past week. The memorial service was held in Orillia on Sunday with many from here attending. Sympathy is also extended to the family of Ethel Goble of Tyrone who passed away very suddenly on Thursday evening. Her funeral was held on Monday morning in Bowmanville. About 40 descendants of May (Gaud) and Morley Wilkins of Courtice enjoyed the 30th family picnic which was held at the home of Gord and Debbie Bryans, Leanna and Christina on Gray Road south of Yelverton. Nancy Bryans along with Patti Alpe, Nathan and Emma joined other relatives from Port Hope, Oshawa, Bowmanville and sur- rounding areas. Babe Brown of Oshawa (Nancy Bryans' mom) along with Leanna Bryans cele- brated their birthdays too. A family supper had been held earlier in honour of Leanna with Bob and Nancy Bryans, the Alpes and Bev and Shirley Black of Oshawa. Happy birthday, Leanna. There were 13 tables at the Tuesday evening card party with the following winners: Lois Huntington, Audrey Mahaffy, Mary Henderson, Doris Evans, Ann Zaporani and May Shortridge. Eileen Owen won the most lone hands. Lucky draws were won by Bernice Wells, Ruby Smith, Doreen Kelly, Audrey Mahaffy, Verna Slute and Ann Zaporani. Jill Davidson of Bermuda is spending a couple of weeks in Ontario visiting family and friends. Brian and Maggie VanCamp, Nathan and Mathew have moved from Winnipeg to their farm home on Scugog Island. Beverley and Shawn McLeod of Camborne are visiting their grandparents Richard and Ruby VanCamp. Lawrence and Jan VanCamp are visiting relatives and friends in the Kingston and Belleville areas. It'll be held July 21 at the Seagrave United Church There's a community wedding show We're going to clean-up, tune-up and plant at the big pier Saturday - planned for Jay King, Stacey Smith Please join us at the Seagrave United Church on Friday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m. for a community wed- ding shower for our neigh- bour Jay King and his fiance, Stacey Smith, who will be married in August. The shower will be hosted by Fran Taylor and Doreen Carleton. Luncheon and refreshments will be served and spouses are welcome. As in past years, Diane and | will not be putting in Seagrave news for the month of August. If, how- ever, you have a special upcoming occasion, etc, ~~ that you wish to go in, just give us a call. Congratulations to the following Seagrave stu- dents graduating from Grade 8 and high school. Grade 8 graduates from Dr. George Hall are: Jeremy Tufts, Rebecca MacDonald (honours), Colt Beauchamp (honours), Jeffrey Blair, Amanda Hill (honours), Ashleigh Ford (honours), Josh Maschke, Lisa Pentland (honours), Drew Nagey and Darcy Johnston. Good luck in high school to all the graduates. Grade 8 graduates from S.A. Cawker are: Derek Kent, Laura McFadden, Amber English, Vanessa Rose, Jake Yokam, Jessica Seagrave by Ann Sandiford Taylor. Grade 8 graduate from The Good Shepherd Catholic School is Adam Johansen. We will have the R.H. Cornish, French Immersion graduate information next week. Congratulations to the following Port Perry High School graduates: Joshua Jonah and John Berry. Additional congratulations to John Berry an honours graduate who is off to Western University in September. Diane and | spent a lot of time phoning around for the graduate information and we hope we haven't missed anyone. If we have, please give us a call and we will put it in next week. Happy birthday this week to Lawrence Nicholls, Clarke Ross and Stan Williams. Enbridge Consumers Gas Company will have a promotional description on natural gas services for heating homes in the area. There will be a trailer out- side the Seagrave Church on Saturday, July 15 from Il am. to2 p.m. They will also hold a meeting in the Seagrave Church basement on Friday, July 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. Seagrave Church will be closed on July 23 and 30 and Aug. 6 and 13 for holi- days. Rev. Ross Carson will take the service at Pinedale and Aug. 20 at 10 a.m. and at Seagrave on Aug. 27 at 10 a.m. Rev. Helen Prior of Sunderland United Church will be on call at Seagrave, while Rev. Seagrave Church News Some from Pinedale Church joined us for the service on Sunday morn- ing. Neil Wanamaker read the scripture vs. from Romans, James and Colossians. Rev. Carson's sermon was on "Cultivating patience in the midst of productivity. Be patient and your lives will be fruit- ful in all kinds of good works. Thanks to the choir members who provided the coffee hour after the service. Blackstock Lions look at our new signs, I'm happy to say the club was happy with the results of their snack bar at the tractor pull. The only thing is poor Robert Mairs has the job to clean the barbecue. Wednesday, July 19 there will be a director's meeting at Lion Bruce's home at 7:30 p.m. | attended the Lions Camp Kirk meet- ing last Saturday at the Lions Hall in Kirkfield. I think one important-item was the change in registration numbers. It's now Lions Camp Kirk Foundation register number 890358849RRO0O01. At present they need two or three more sleeping cabins accommodation. The activity building at present would cost around $42,000. I trust that bit of rain didn't dampen the spirits of the attendance. It seems we cant' plan anything this year without rain interfering. Lake Scugog Regatta Association There will be a meeting this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at my home, 20 Putsey Dr. Everyone welcome. We have the pro- gram in the printing stages now and this is where we need your support for the next stage. Joke of the Week A clerk requested an I.D. from a department store customer who had just written a personal cheque for her pur- chase.
