Over the July 15-16 week- CHRIS HALL / PORT PERRY STAR end, the track was opened up to anyone with a bike who wanted to run the circiut, and, last week- end, the Parts Canada Superbike Championship was held on July 23. Drivers pay their thanks with Fan Appreciation Night at Mosport Speedway Thanks for coming out By John "Wally" Nesbitt From Comer Five Mosport Speedway staged their Fan Appreciation Night on July 22, a night when the drivers can thank the fans with autographs, momentos and some of the best racing that we've seen this season. The Bob's Towing ThunderCars started the evening's action with heat wins claimed by Oshawa's Gabe Scimone and Larry MacKenzie. In the 20 lap feature dash, it was series points leader Terry Shaw sur- viving an incident-filled affair to take the victory. Newcastle's Brian Strawn tried hard but was forced to settle for the runner-up spot, holding off rookie Dale Chilvers, who took a well deserved third place. Doug Wills in his #28 Malibu crossed the line in fourth with Ajax's John Smith rounding out the top five. Challenging class newcomer Bill Northam claimed his first feature win on Saturday as he outlasted the pres- sure from perennial charger Mike Poulton and long time Mosport com- pefitor Whitby's Craig Perry. Series points leader Bob Kish saw his night end on the first lap when he was col- lected in a turn one accident that destroyed the rear axle in his #78 Cutlass. Poulton, in his #53 Monte Carlo had scored the victory in the earlier heat dash. Beeton's Dwight Brown took advantage of Larry Jackson's deflating back tire to take the feature victory in Saturday's open wheeled Modified race. Starting from the back of the 19 car field, Brown won the drag race to the checkered flag, taking the win by a bumpers width over the Oakville firefighter. Port Perry's Rod Sauder crossed the line a close third with John Tenue (#43) and Rudy Oppersma (#40) next to the line. Defending series champion Darrin Wrigglesworth was in the battle for the lead when an incident with some inattentive backmarkers ended his action against the back-straight wall. Carlie Wright had four hits also including a grand slam. All Flags Service vs Metal Supermarkets 24-20 Trevor Foster had two hits and scored a run. Madison Nodleman-Williams had three hits, including a home run. Mite Tyrone vs Analada Garden Centre 10-8 Both teams were short players and had to work extra hard this game. After a well played game Tyrone came out on top against Analda Garden Centre. Analda Garden Centre vs Blackstock Lion Cubs 10-8 Analda Garden Centre had a close game against the Lion Cubs, managing to win in the fifth inning by two runs. Strong defensive play by Robert Gatchell, Brittany Wagg and Alex Fortnum helped to gain the win. Jordan Campbell did well pitching with good control of the ball. Adam Down has found his nitch at catcher shutting down attempts at stealing second and third. Squirts HEM Wright Sox vs Youngfield Farms 27-12 All players on Youngfield played well. Star team- mates for this game were Erin Lang wo got a home run, Brent Paradis who pitched very well and Rina Prendergast who hit really well. Overall, good work by Youngfield. Another great game for H&M Wright Sox. Great batting and terrific fielding by the entire team helped to win the game. Too many great plays to single out any one. Greenbank Bakery vs Mother Jackson Open Kitchens 19-9 Greenbank played very well. Nice singles by Kris Bonner, Ashley Postill and call-up Mason Newlove. Doubles by James Forsythe and Cruse Newlove. Triples by Ben Rutledge and TJ. Taylor and two triples for Brandon Watson. Jordan Travers had two outs in the first inning and James Larmer and call-up Brent Shaddock made great throws to Taylor to home plate for an out each.
