22 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, July 25, 2000 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Remember it's planned for August 5-6 See you at the 72nd annual Lake Scugog Regatta The week of July 2 and again on the 18th | wrote about the improvements we were making at the big pier. This project was okayed by the roads depart- ment. We are endeavoring to make a small parkette so the inland people can take a stroll on a hot day and sit down on the new benches when they arrive near the cool water. Saturday, July 15 we rented equipment and installed posts and a beach, 4x4 to divide the sand from the grass. This past Friday night we had somebody trying to get all six poles out. They did manage to pull two of them out and throw them in the lake. Our thanks to a man who saw them and rescued them. We thank the Turner Nursery in Blackstock who donated plants for our flowerbed at the big pier, Shirley Love and | representing the Pine Ridge Garden Club planted them this past Sunday. This past Thursday night a street Canadian Flag which | was leaving up until after the Regatta weekend was stolen from in front of number 3539 on Hwy. 57. Blackstock Lions At a director's meeting last Wednesday we had 11 of our members and three from Port Perry. The major topic was the Musician Corn Roast for Sunday, Aug. 13. Here we serve hot dogs and hamburgers. As you know the Blackstock Lions offer a service of serving liquor for special occasions. We cover ourselves with insurance JaYJol=1g Putsey and all Lions have taken a course and have a certificate of approval to do so. We have now been asked if we would cook the hamburgs and hot dogs for the Progressive Conservative Party Corn Roast for Wednesday, Aug. 30 at Blackstock Rec. Centre. Like our bars we will be paid for this ser- vice. What a bundle of joy Bill Ingram's mother had many years ago on July 1. It's Bill's birthday. Lake Scugog Historical Society The meeting slated for last Thursday, July 13 was cancelled due to a number of executives being away on holidays. Next director's meeting is slated for Thursday, Aug. 10 at the museum centre. Lake Scugog Regatta Association We had another fast moving, well discussed meeting this past Sunday rounding out all the many items we need to cover, the equipment, the prizes, the snack bar and so on. The can- vassers are out in full force giving out programs and asking for your financial support. If we could collect $20 from each household our financial worries would be over. Be sure to be on hand for the kiddies parade, the mutt show and all the afternoon events, not forgetting the water sports on the Sunday. Saturday and Sunday nights we have a busy time with the horse shoes and volleyball playoffs. See you at our 72nd annual Regatta. The One Liner My insomnia is worse than ever. Now | can't even sleep when it's time to get up. Caesar's Cemetery My thanks to Carter Roberts who gave a couple of hours with his chainsaw to improve the entrance to the cemetery. The low lying branches were a nui- sance. It's a fundraiser for the Childrens' Wish Foundation Congratulations to our resident of Seagrave who purchased a "Winner Take All" lottery ticket at Wanamaker's General Store and won over $26,000. First, second and third across the finish line wins. Lots of fun with proceeds to the Children's Wish Foundation. Happy birthday wishes to Devon Martin and any others celebrating their special day. Many, I'm sure have seen the beau- tiful sign on the highway for the Northwood Buffalo and Exotic Animal Ranch - our local "Zoo" is really putting Seagrave on the map. The ranch is hosting a fundraiser for the Children's Wish Foundation this Saturday and Sunday, July 29 and 30. Visitors will be asked for ideas and suggestions in the naming of some new baby additions (four lion cubs, two wolf cubs, two monkeys and a baby donkey). There will be lots to see and do. Call 985-2738 for more information. The ever popular store in Seagrave is now home to an "Art Gallery Wall." Our daughter Katherine, who is an art enthusiast and who works at the store, asked Wayne about using a small wall at the store for local kids art. These masterpieces of finger- paintings, crayon and such will be displayed for a while and returned to the artist. Thanks Wayne for being so supportive to the community.
