Y your Eyes on / Burn victim airlifted to U.S. By Jeff Mitchell Port Perry Star A patient who sus- tained extensive burns wound up being airlifted to an American hospital Thursday, after doctors in Port Perry were unable to locate a burn unit bed for him in Ontario. The 52-year-old man, who according to a source sustained burns to his tal"s burn unit had no beds available, said Ms Robinson. The search was widened, to include hos- pitals in Hamilton and Sudbury, but both of those units were filled to capacity as well. Finally, a bed was found at Eerie County Hospital in Buffalo, and the patient was put into a helicopter and readied for transfer. But before take-off occurred, doctors learned that bed had been taken as well. "(The patient) waited another 15 minutes in the helicopter while doctors tried to locate another bed," said Ms Robinson. Finally, a bed was found at the Rochester hospital. The airlift to New York State began at 1:30 p.m. Ms Robinson could not provide an update on the patient's condition Friday. "When (the patient) was transferred, he was in serious but stable condi- tion," she said. Local police and fire crews were not called upon to respond to the incident. "It was just kind of a fluke that there were no burn unit beds available in the province," said Lakeridge spokesperson Linda Robinson. Ms Robinson said the patient, who has not been identified, arrived at hos- pital in Port Perry at 6:05 a.m. Thursday. He was stabilized, and the search for a burn unit bed was begun by attending physicians Steve Russell and Kevin Smith. Now, will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain, Nor hate Me when I call to bring him home to Me again?" I fancied that I heard them say: Dear Lord, thy will be done!
