"Scugog"s Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, August 29 - 11 Texas Showdown is theme of casino golf classic for Port Perry Hospital The Great Blue Heron Charity Casino will holding its own "Texas Showdown" in September when the fourth annual golf classic is held to raise funds for the Port Perry hospi- tal. There are still spots available for the 2000 tournament, which will be held Sept. 13 at the Royal Ashburn Golf and Country Club. More than $16,000 was raised at last year's event, and organizers are aiming for the $20,000 in 2000. The money will be used to purchase a fetal heart monitor for the New Life Centre. The fun will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a shotgun start. Following the game, everyone is invited to a fab- ulous Texas barbeque. All partici- pants will also receive prizes. Attracting competitors in various classes from across the region and neighbouring counties, the annual Plowing Match will be hosted by the DeGeer family at their farm located on Durham Rd. I, just north of Leaskdale. There will be horse-plowing (jointer and riding), tractor classes, and antique classes.
