The Blackstock Lions, the Pine Ridge Garden Club, and the Lake Scugog Historical Society and | was unable to help any of them except being in the parade with Leo the Lion. The fair board asked me to show my exhibit of the early pictures of Cartwright. It was indeed a great fair and I'm sure everyone went home very happy but tired. | know the people who saw me showed great interest in Cartwright history. My biggest regret was | was kept so busy | was unable to get out and see the exhibit from the R.O.M. Blackstock Lions This coming Wednesday night, Aug. 30, as part of our fundraising, we have been hired by the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party to cook the hamburg- ers and hot dogs at their annual corn roast and get together which we are look- ing forward to. The Lion family of south- ern Ontario and especially those of Blackstock were very saddened on the pass- ing of Howard Gauthier on Aug. ]5. Howard, although a man of 86, was always very polite, very immaculate and always wanted to help where he could. A loss to us all of a great friend and a great Lion. The last day of the 4 Pine Ridge Garden Club The club was very busy at the Blackstock Fair and before they can catch their breath they are out again giving the seniors of the nursing home their annual corn roast this Tuesday, Aug. 28. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Nestleton Hall. Guest speaker will be Season Garden Tours is Saturday, Sept. 9. Best friend Sharmen Porter was matron of honour, and her son Dakota was ringbearer, as well as several other atten- dants. A lovely reception and dinner followed at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Ritson Road, Oshawa. Many out of town guests attended from as far away as New Mexico, the Netherlands and across Canada. Some of these were Debbie's friends from her association with "Up With People." Congratulations and very best wishes to the happy couple. Paul and Lori Emm and daughter from Dallas, Texas spent a few days with Paul's parents, Gerry and Betty Emm recently. Ron and Pat Ashton enjoyed camping at Orillia over the weekend. Craig Stubbs was the guest speaker at Brooklin Horticultural meeting last Wednesday night. His sub- ject was Hostas. There was a total of 118 entries in the flower show. Best specimen flower (not gladiolus) was won by Norma Ingleton. Best specimen gladiolus won by Doris Slute, which happened to be the only entry of gladiolus. Bad year for gladiolus | understand. Best specimen vegetable/fruit won by Audrey Young. Best deco- rative winner Marg Powell for her design, Flapper, a design of choice.
