New members are welcome (high), bass (low) and bari- tone (fills in the sound). The motto of Sweet Adelines is "Harmonize the World." The barbershop sound is performed a capella (i.e. without instrumental accompaniment). This sound creates chords that are a joy to sing, producing glorious and melodious tones which evoke all types of emotional response in young and old alike. The Pineridge Chorus began in Uxbridge in 1985. The name "Pineridge" reflects on the broad area in which the members live. Members come to the cho- rus in a variety of ways and from a variety of back- grounds. Some have sung previously in church choirs, or other musical venues, but experience is not necessary. Pineridge Chorus offers a program dedicated to musical excellence and education in an atmosphere of friendship and fun. Members learn a variety of music ... ballads, bubbly 'fun' tunes, inspirational, some old "typical" barber- shop music but also lots of contemporary songs like "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" from The Liop King. Ability to read music is not required as tapes of new music are provided. Pineridge Chorus per- forms at various public and private functions. Recent performances include: Pefferlaw United Church, Greenbank United Church's barbecue, a spe- cial dedication in Nestleton, Claremont Legion, Art in the Park in Uxbridge, Versa Care's birthday party in August. The chorus enjoys enter- taining at festivals, senior citizen's homes, fairs and community centres. The highlight of the year for Pineridge Chorus is "Regional Competition" where approximately 30 choruses from Region 16 (surrounding Lake Ontario) compete in Syracuse, N.Y. in April each year. Putting together a "performance package" is an opportunity for learning at many levels, personal and chorus development, choreogra- phy and showmanship. A -- RE JE I. J a. a I I.
