The Brooklin Redmen and the Brampton Excelsiors met in game seven of the OLA Major Series Finals. The biggest crowd of the year, estimat- ed at 2,200 fans, was on hand to witness the drama. The Redmen were down early on in this series two games to none and rallied to win three in a row. An overtime victory by the Excelsiors forced this sev- enth and deciding game. The Redmen opened the scoring with less than a minute off the. clock and as fans were still piling 'in to Iroquois Park. Brad Reed scooped up a loose ball and scored on a breakaway. The visitors countered just 20 seconds later on a goal by Ryan Sanderson. Nick Trudeau scored his first and second of the night before the Excelsiors scored and knotted the game at three. The Redmen went on a roll and the home fans were ready to be entertained. With less than half the period remaining the Redmen went on a five goal run to take a commanding 8-3 lead into the first intermission. Nick Trudeau scored a hat trick in the first frame including a power play goal with just under a minute left on the clock. The Excelsiors regrouped in the dress- ing room and came out with a quick goal by Dan Teat just 20 seconds in to the sec- ond. Ryan Sanderson scored his second of the night for the visitors to close the gap to 8-5. Before the period was over, Shawn Williams and Marty O'Brien restored the two-goal lead and the Redmen went in to the intermission up 10-5. It appeared that by the third period the Redmen had worn down the Excelsiors. Redmen goalie, Rob Blasdell, coming off an injury and missing games five and six of this series, had put in a solid effort in net. At the 13:11 mark of the third he decid- ed to get in on the offensive side of the game. The Excelsiors had been taking Pat O'Toole off the floor to add an extra attacker. Blasdell picked up a loose ball and showed some skill by hurling the ball down the length of the floor and into the back of an empty Excelsior net. The Redmen outscored the Excelsiors 3-1 in that final frame and took a 13-6 victory.
