The team, composed of firefighters from both the Scugog and Caesarea Halls extrication squads, have placed so well in recent provincial competitions that they have earned a berth in the North American championships for extrication teams to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada later this year. The team has excelled at the use of hand tools that are vital in situations where power is unavail- able, or dangerous to use. Their efforts on the job have saved countless car accident victims over the years. District Chief Dave Ballingall, who trains the extrication teams, says this team is as good as he has seen. * help from "Some of these guys are fairly new to the service and it takes time for a team to gel," he said. "But this team has proven itself to be the equal of any fire service at any time. They will do well." The trip to compete against the best North American fire services have does not : come cheaply, and the firefight- ers will be getting some Scugog Township council and sev- eral community groups that have helped in past fundraising efforts. But they need all the help they can get. The firefighters plan a car wash and other events in coming weeks to help raise over $5,000 needed to send the team to Las Vegas.
