ON . 16 > RORT PERRY, STAR : Juesday, October 24,2000 "Scugag's Community; Newspaper of Cheice" Project a tribute to Scugog's war dead Annual snow show coming up Book of Remembrance launched By Chris Hall Port Perry Star A local woman is working to ensure that Scugog's war dead will not be forgotten. While their names and ranks have been engraved into the memorials in Port Perry and Blackstock, a Manchester woman has begun to dig deeper into their lives, looking for information which will eventually lead to a "Book of Remembrance" on Scugog's fallen soldiers. "People ask about the names on the cenotaph - who these men were and what they did - but there is no information on them," said Barb Doupe, who is a mem- ber of the Port Perry Legion's executive board. "I thought it would be nice to have something at the Legion where people could learn about those who died in the wars, and not have our fallen comrades forgot- ten." More than 30 local men died fighting in World War 1 between 1914 and 1918, and another 13 were killed in know who they are, where they lived, what they did, when they joined, where they were overseas... | just want to see something put together with some general information on them," said Mrs. Doupe. "Something to make sure they are remembered." With Remembrance Day quickly approaching, Mrs. Doupe says this should be a good time to get people thinking about those who sacrificed their lives for free- dom. Mrs. Doupe is just beginning her task, and there is no deadline for the project as of yet. "It's a good project for the Legion, something to help us all remember. There's no rush to finish it, we just want to do a good job and honour those men," she said. "We have nothing on our fallen comrades, and | think it would be nice for the Legion members, and the pub- lic, to have something like this."
