Centre. President Dora Martyn acted as M.C. for the following program. The afternoon opened with the Institute Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect after which the Theme Song by Angus Foster was sung. Pat Sleep reviewed the many and impressive W.I. achievements over the past 85 years. What a difference this organization has made to the area. Muriel Wotten and Marion Carter favoured with several musical selections which was followed by several songs by A Touch of Country. Edith McLaughlin introduced our local Kathy McLaughlin who spoke about her position as nurse practioner. Helen Dorrell thanked Kathy for her excellent talk. Greetings were brought by visitors Bernice Andrews, the area president, Pac person - Paula Williamson and district Grad ceremonies will be at Cartwright Central Public School, beginning at 8 p.m. president Barbara Captyn. A beautifully decorated cake was cut by long time members - Helen Bradburn, Muriel Hoskin and May Shortridge and was enjoyed along with ice cream and coffee by the large number in attendance. The happy event closed with the singing of O"Canada. A reminder that the Cartwright High School annual Commencement exercises will be held at the public school on Friday evening beginning at 8 p.m. All are welcome to cele- brate the young people's achievements. On Saturday, Nov. 11 the annual Remembrance Day Service will be held at the Rec. Centre beginning at 10:30 p.m. and concluding at the cenotaph at Il a.m. Let us remember. A special family lunch was held last Sunday for our newest teenager Christina Bryans. Nancy and Bob Bryans were guests at Gord and Debbie Bryans, Leanna and Christina's farm, Yelverton. Also celebrating a little late was Patti Alpe along with Nathan and Emma from Mason St. There is an excellent oppor- tunity for any interested local people to take advantage of a Facilitator Workshop conducted by an outstanding speaker sponsored by the Sick Children's Brain Child Association in the Bethany area on Saturday, Nov. 11. St. John's News By Colin Beal This past weekend, St. John's was the venue for two events which brought together old friend from across the township. The annual Fall Beef Supper, served on Saturday evening, brought lots of old friends and acquaintances together for a delicious meal and much remi- niscing. The beef was great, the desserts were, as always, plenti- ful and delicious. On Sunday evening, choris- ters from St. John's and Blackstock United Churches, joined to celebrate the Feast of All Saints. The service was based on the traditional Anglican Service of Evensong. In addition to the service music, each choir sang two anthems and the two choirs combined for a final anthem. Father Hugh, with Rev. Phillip Hobbs of Blackstock United Church, offici- ated. Following the service the two choirs and members of the congregation, which was drawn from all the churches in Cartwright, gathered in the Parish Hall to enjoy refresh- ments and fellowship. Most of the photographs for the St. John's Photo-directory have been processed and proofs will be available this week. We will be taking group photos on Sunday, Nov. 12 and we ask members of all the Parish groups - the chpir, wardens, church school teachers (and stu- dents), altar servers, etc., etc, to be present at the Sunday ser- vice. This will be the only oppor- tunity to take these group pic- tures since they must be in the hands of the publishers by Nov. 17. A service of baptism was held on Sunday in Utica Church when Brooklyn Annie, daughter of Glen and Shari Kerry and Charlie Robert, son of Brian and Pat Kerry were presented for initia- tion into the body of Christ. There was a very good turnout at the forum in Utica Hall on Thursday evening to hear the candidates, for the upcoming election, answer questions and express their views. The Utica Hall Board are congratulated for holding this forum and thank yous go to Barb Evans who acted as moderator and to Country Style Donuts for donating the goodies. The last 12 acres of soybeans was harvested last week yielding another 30 bushels per acre. This should bring the total to be donated to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank to $11,000. U.C.W. members who were asked to donate baking, etc. to the Accera auction sale this Saturday, Nov. 11, are minded to have items there by 10 a.m. at the latest as the sale begins at [1:30 a.m. A reminder to mem- bers that some help is needed. The Evening Unit UC W. will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 7:15 p.m. in the church base- ment. This is their craft meeting. A big crowd attended the Friday evening euchre at the hall. Lucky winners for the ladies were Shirley Lee, Minnie Marten, Isabel Raines, Norrine Cook and Lorraine Geer. For the gents - Neil Hunter, Cliff Rodd, Ralph Dusty, Glen Till, and Brenda Gibson.
