Over 250 had breakfast. Organizer Kathy Hill is very appreciative of all the help she received especially from the hard working Girl Guides. | Sunday evening was the annu- al Carol Service at the United Church. it began with the Junior Concert Band of the Cartwright High School playing three fine numbers under the direction of Mr. J. Beimess. This was followed by numbers from the St. John's Anglican Church Choir, the United Church Choir and the combined choirs as well as much carol singing. | The annual High School Dinner will be held at the Rec. Centre on Wednesday, Dec. 20 when a combination of food and music will be enjoyed. If you are a senior who wishes to take part in the event call the high school to make reservations. On this coming Wednesday, Dec. 6 the second annual farm Santa Claus Parade will take place beginning at John Avery's farm on Old Scugog going to Enniskillen on the Hayden and then Tyrone. This colourful event featuring many machines lit by generator lights will begin at 6 p.m. Try to take it in somewhere on its.route. At the United Church Service on Sunday morning the Sacrament of Baptism was con- ducted when Tyler Thomas Doyle, son of Tina and Raymond and Kathryn Sager Van Camp, daughter of Maggie and Brian were received. Kathryn's great aunt, Rev. Doreen Van Camp con- ducted her baptism. The Senior Choir sang a wonderful anthem "There is a Light." Rev. Phil Hobbs thoughtful sermon was "Take Time" - how appropriate for these hectic days. Brian and Maggie Van Camp were received as new members by transfer. Sympathy is extended to _Janice and Kevin Irwin on the "passing her grandfather Frank Tripp last week. Thoughts are also extended to Marie and Cecil Gibson on the loss of Marie's brother. The funeral was held at the Wagg Funeral Home Chapel, Port Perry on Friday afternoon with several from this area attending. Plans are underway for a Snowflake Bonspiel at the local arena on Dec. 27. It is hoped that many families will take advan- tage of a time together during the Christmas season. Sign-up sheét is at the arena or call any curler to have your name put on. There were 10+2 tables of . cards with the following winners - Charlie Stapleton, Eileen McLaughlin, Teresa Berker, Velma Johnston, Les Johnston, Verna Slute also with the most lone hands and Elizabeth Craig. Draws were won by Nerta Masters, Harry Hill, Elwood Manns, Verna Robinson and Gary Notenboom (two). St. John's News By Colin Beal On Saturday, Dec. 2 at St. John's Church, Blackstock, Alicia Bentley and Michael Sluggett exchanged marriage vows before a large gathering of families and friends. Father Hugh officiated and music was provided by The Hamstrings Quartet. Alicia is the daughter of Dave and Wendy Bentley. The reception and dance was held at the Rec. Centre. Our love, prayers and best wishes to Alicia and Mike for many happy years together. The ladies of the parish will be decorating the church for Christmas on Saturday, Dec, 9. The theme will be "Angels." Lucy Black and Jane Fisher are orga- nizing the work and they are looking for volunteers and also for offers of loans of items appro- priate to the decorative theme, If you can help please contact Lucy at 986-5984 or Jane Fisher at 263-8800. White Gift Sunday will be | White Gift Week at St. John's this year. It will run from Sunday, Dec. 10 to Sunday, Dec. |7. The bene- ficiaries of this year's White Gift Collection will be Operation Scugog (two families) and Denise | House. Gifts of canned foods would be appreciated as would donations for the purchase of perishable items.
