Does it make a difference which one I buy? Believe it or not all three types of produce are comparable in nutri- tional quality. Frozen produce is frozen at its peak freshness therefore maintaining it's nutritional quality. It does not have added salt but just be moderate with those frozen vegetables that have butter sauces as they can add significant fat. Canned produce, while to the palate they may not be as pleasing, nutritionally they are very close in nutritional quality to frozen or fresh. The one disadvantage to canned vegetables is the added salt for preservation although there are canned options without added salt. Fresh produce, when extremely fresh local produce it is slightly superior but not enough to feel unconfident about using the other two options. The benefits are with the senses where most of us prefer the taste and texture of fresh produce. In the winter months when our produce is brought from other warmer countries, with increased travel time the quality may start to decrease. Overall, the most important message is that we include vegetables daily in our eating routine no matter what type we prefer. It is estimated that more than $100,000 will be needed to replace the 42-year-old ice plant at the local curling club, which finally broke down for the last time this past summer. A pinhole leak was dis- covered in one of the pipes of the old ammo- nia-based system, requir- ing the club to replace its refrigeration system. The club has a little more than $60,000 saved "up in its capital funds account, but will need another $45,000 on top of that to complete the needed work. In an effort to raise funds to pay off loans for the new plant, the Port Perry club's planning on holding a New Year's Eve dance at the curling club. Cocktails will be served between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., with a roast beef dinner to follow. The dance will run from 9 p.m. to | a.m. Mike Brodeur will DJ.
