PAGE 8 CHRISTMAS GREETINGS SECTION THE PORT PERRY STAR Hayley says hi to Santa Claus Dear Santa: How are your elves and your reindeer in the Northpole? I've been good at home and at school. I'd like to have Poo-chi and Pretty Petals and a globe pen for Christmas. Please may | have them in the basement because that is where | sleep? | will leave milk and cookies for you. From Hayley, Grade 2, Epsom Public School Holidays can be hectic Preparation is everything as Christmas nears Deck the halls! The holiday season has arrived once again. Perhaps it seems like only yesterday that you were opening up gifts, vis- iting with family and friends and celebrating the spiritual and special moments of this time of year. As candles flicker on the mantle or sweet carols float from a favorite holi- day song collection, it is time to remember what these days mean to you. Throughout December, three distinct celebrations occur. Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Christmas share the calendar during this winter month. While these holi- days differ in religious and cultural traditions, they are all times for decorating, gift-giving and spiritual reflection. As with any occasion, the stress these holidays may create quickly can turn the tides on any happy moment. Having a plan can keep you from feeling overwhelmed dur- ing the season. Following is a list of ways to plan for the holidays to make the time go smoothly and stress free, courtesy of "365 Ways to Prepare for Christmas." (Harper Collins), by David E. Monn. e Create a corner for your gifts. Can anything be more frustrating than try- ing to remember where you put the gifts you bought early? Designate an area to store the essen- tials until you need them. e Make lists. There are people for whom it is easi- est to buy ahead. Each has interests and hobbies. A handy list will make shop- ping easy. e Work the sales. Many stores feature sales all year long. Take advantage of these sales to stock up on your holiday gifts while the prices are low. e When to mail. Buy stamps, packing boxes and brown shipping paper in December or during the first week in December. Get your domestic cards and gift packages into the mail no later than two weeks before the holiday. Wishes _-- for the holidays and all through the coming year. Michael L.
