McClelland Port Perry Star The Port Perry Mojacks found plenty of nice things under the Christmas tree over the past week © Or so. Like three wins over some very tough opponents which pushed their undefeated streak to five games and vaulted them into fourth place and the final playoff berth in the Central Ontario Jr. C League. The Mojacks got things going "back on Dec. 22 when they defeated Georgina 4-2. Then, three days after + Christmas, downed the Uxbridge Bruins in a 6-4 thriller, and followed that up last Saturday evening with a 4-3 victory over the Little Britain Merchants. This was one of those proverbial "four-pointers", as the Merchants and MoJacks are battling it out for the final playoff berth. "MoJack's general manager and head coach Murray Parliament says the dramatic turn-around in team fortunes over the past three weeks is due to several factors. "The guys are playing with a tremendous amount of grit and hus- tle, and we are getting a complete effort from everyone," he told The Port Perry Star after their win over the Merchants. And, he pointed to some addi- tions to the roster which have strengthened the team such as lan Watson and Justin Bennett. Since taking the head coaching duties early in December, Parliament has been using all four lines. Perhaps most important of all, the wins have instilled a sense of confidence in the players and they are starting to believe in their abili- ties. In the game Saturday night in Little Britain, the MoJacks jumped into a 3-0 lead in the first period on a pair of goals by Adam Jones and a single from Braden Tarbotten. Jason Whitworth got what proved to be the winner early in third on a set-up from Shawn Curran and Matt McMaster. For the Merchants, Darryl Lewis had two and Jon Perrin a sin- gle. 'As if playing the Merchants at home is not tough enough, the MoJacks had to battle the winter elements as well. Two cars taking Turn to Page 19 CHECK OUT THE TALENT. ROOT FOR THE THERE FOR THE WIN!
