The municipality became responsi- ble for the park after a lease between the township and the Caesarea Hall Board expired on Jan. I. The park had been leased to the local group since 1980. Since then, the hall board has renewed its contract with the municipality every five years, said Jay Todd, the township's parks and recreation director . It was decided last year that the board would not sign a new lease agreement, and therefore give up oper- ating the small park. A public meeting on the future of Putsey Park has been scheduled for tomorrow evening, beginning at 7 p.m. It will be held at the Caesarea Hall. "They've decided not to renew (the lease) because the majority of people involved with the park are aging, and no new help is coming forward," said Mr. Todd. "Help is hard to come by there." For the past 2Q years or so, the hall board has been responsible for the maintenance of the park and organizing such public events as the annual . Caesarea Regatta and Canada Day cele- brations. The township has always acted as a partner with the board, help- ing to co-ordinate and promote those activities, said Mr. Todd. Issues such as continuing with those events, and financial matters, will be discussed at tomorrow night's meeting. "It will be in our best interest, and in the best interest of the people in the community there; if we take over oper- ation of the park," said Mr. Todd. The township already looks after the maintenance of Peace Park, also in Caesarea. . "It will not have a huge impact on our operations. We're already there, and it would only take a couple more hours or so a week to cut and trim there." Councillor David Dietlein (Ward 4), Jim McMillen (Ward 3), and Mr. Todd are expected to attend the meeting. "There is a lot of history there at Putsey Park, and we want this to be an easy transition. We still want to work in conjunction with the hall board," said Mr. Todd. "At this meeting, we want the com- munity to tell us. what they want us to do, what they want to see done." School reunion planned Dunbarton High School is holding their 40th reunion on May 26 from 4 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. at Iroquois Park, in Whitby, 500 Victoria St. West. There will be a buffet and dancing for $30 per person in advance or $40 per person at the door. For tickets call (905) 655-5566.
