Star film critic Foote seriously By Jeff Mitchell Port Perry Star A long recovery period is forecast for Seagrave resident John Foote, who sustained serious injuries in an early-morning acci- dent last week. Mr. Foote, 41, sus- tained numerous injuries Wednesday morning and was rushed to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, where he under- went surgery. Mr. Foote's injuries included a broken pelvis and legs, as well as inter- nal injuries, said his wife, Sherry. Although his con- dition was extremely criti- cal immediately after the accident, Mr. Foote has rallied and will recover, she said. "They're saying he's responding very well; they're really pleased," an exhausted Mrs. Foote said late last week. "He's going to be in the hospital for a long time," she said. ~...Mr. Foote was commut- ing to his job at the Trebas Institute in Toronto when the accident occurred on Brock Rd. north of Hwy. 7, just before 7 a.m. last Wednesday (Feb. 14). Road conditions were treacherous at the time of the accident, which involved Mr. Foote's car and a northbound vehicle being driven by an Ajax resident. That man sus- tained minor injuries, according to police. Mr. Foote is director of the Trebas Institute, a techincal college which teaches courses in various media. He assumed the job. at the helm of the institute just recently, injured in crash John Foote after serving a couple of years as head of the film and television depart- ment. He's also been the film critic for the Port Perry Weekend Star, a position he's held since the paper was launched seven years ago. - Mr. Foote also submits film reviews and analysis to other publications, and has been involved in the production of a documen- tary on the composer of the music used in Charles Chaplin's films. And he's working on an authorized biography 'of film great Robert Duvall. All that's on hold while Mr. Foote recovers, said Mrs. Foote. The couple live in Seagrave, and have two young daughters. As grave as the acci- dent was, it fortunately left Mr. Foote with no brain or spinal injuries, she said. Mrs. Foote expressed gratitude for the reaction of friends and neighbours, who she said have been extremely supportive since the shocking news of . the accident came last week. - "You can't beat living in a small town," she said.
