IT -- PR ------ rr ------ 8 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 27, 2001 Plans for Putsey Park still up in the air after meeting By Chris Hall Port Perry Star No decision has yet been made on the future of Putsey Park in Caesarea. A public meeting held last Wednesday evening (Feb. 21) was positive, but no clear direction came out of it, said Jay Todd, the township's parks and recreation director. "I'd like to see more of a concrete direction; nothing was really decid- ed," he said. "It was really just an information session; we let the hall board know what we could offer them." At the conclusion of the meeting, it was decid- ed that the board mem- bers would discuss the matter at their March 6 meeting. The public forum was necessary because the Caesarea Hall Board's lease for the municipally-. owned Putsey Park expired on Jan. I. After operating the small park for more than 20 years, the hall board opted not to renew the lease. The township has now taken over responsi- bility for the park. But the hall board still wants a say in the opera- tions of the park, said Mr. Todd. They wish to con- tinue holding such annual events as the Caesarea Regatta and Canada Day celebrations at the park. There are also some financial matters that needed to be addressed at the meeting. "The group is very enthusiastic; we want that park to work, and the community there is con- cerned about their events," said Mr. Todd. "This is a great group who will give consider- able support to the com- munity parks. They may have stepped back a bit (on the operations), but they're still going to be involved." Issues such as town- ship grants to area parks and financial plans have yet to be addressed, he added. "We want to make sure everything goes smooth- ly, but there are certain standards we want to see as a municipality." WINDOWS & Teacher Rory Snider- from bottom left) Ross Gow Knutson.
