Impaired charges laid in fatal Island crash | By Rik Davie Special to the Star i A Port Perry man is facing numerous driving charges, including impaired driving causing death, after a head-on collision on Island Road last Friday that killed two other drivers. The collision took place in the early hours of Friday morning. Durham Regional Police said a Chevrolet Cavalier southbound on the Island Rd. near Aldred Dr. was struck from the rear by a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV. } The Cavalier, driven by 60-year-old Ellen Browne of Pickering, was spun into the northbound lanes where it was struck by a northbound Pontiac Sunbird driven by John Piccitto, 48 years, of Oshawa. Ms Browne and Mr. Piccitto were killed as a result of the collision, police said. The destruction caused by the crash, combined with the investi- gation by officers of the Traffic Management Unit, resulted in the clo- sure of Island Rd. for most of Friday morning. Police were also questioning the three occupants of the Tahoe SUV. The investigation has resulted in charges against William Allan Kane, 31, of Port Perry. | Es Mr. Kane has been charged with two counts of criminal negligence causing death, two counts of impaired driving causing death, and two counts of failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
