With the addition of the $75,000 Trillium grant, Cartwright Sports and Recreation Inc. is within reach of its goal of $300,000 for 200i. The organization has approxi- mately $70,000 remaining in unspent funds from 2000, and is counting on $50,000 promised from Scugog Township. They also hope to raise $100,000 in corporate sponsorship and dona- tions from community this year. The group has also held a number of fundrais- ing activities in the com- munity. Also receiving a helping hand from the Ontario Trillium Foundation was the Port Perry Curling Club, which was informed last December that they'd be getting a cheque for $72,000. That money, says club president Steve Carnegie, will be used to purchase a new compressor and con- denser forthe club's refrig-- eration plant, as well as upgrading a service panel. Those improvements will be part of the club's second phase of repairs. They were forced to replace other parts of the refrigeration plant last fall, after a small hole was found in a pipe under- neath the ice surface. The total cost of Phase 2 is expected to be around $90,000; the Trillium Foundation grant is sup- posed to cover approxi- mately 80 per cent of the cost. However, the cheque has yet to arrive, and an order for the new equip- ment has yet to be placed, said Mr. Carnegie. The Ontario Trillium Foundation works with others to make strategic investments to build healthy, sustainable, and caring communities in Ontario. The Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Recreation is funded by the Government of Ontario from the Province's chari- table gaming initiative. - ZN HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED A LOSS? | North Durham Hospice is offering two Grief Support Groups commencing: ' Tuesday, April 17, 2001, Uxbridge at 7:30pm Friday, April 20, 2001, Port Perry at 1:30pm NAAFI CRS Il EWAN WER cl [elel pple "+ Dr. J.
