UR Is a oa ~~ a= Ne iN ---- OTD " -- -- ------------ CHRIS HALL / PORT PERRY STAR Representing the Port Perry Curling Club at the Senior Mixed Provincial finals next week will be the team of, from left, Jan Towns, Garnet Warner and Carol Jackson. Absent is Bill Cornish. The rink has advanced to the tournament after capturing the "A" side of the Zone competition in Oshawa recently and then winning the Regional Competition title at the Dalewood Golf and Curling Club in Port Hope on April 1. As a result, they will play in the seven- game round-robin tournament between April 18-21. It's their fourth consecutive crown Shepstone Tweens grab fourth Regional Championship title The Shepstone Tween ringette team concluded a very successful year with an undefeated weekend in Ajax to capture its fourth consecutive Regional Championship. This strong team lost only two games the entire season and both those games only by a goal. The first team to feel Port Perry's wrath was Mariposa. Goalie Lyndsay Whyte shut the door and allowed no entry as she shutout the opposition entirely. Rachel Kaye scored a beauty and had an assist on Amanda Doble's ~ goal. Jamie Steranka set up one of Amanda Curry's three goals while Britney DeCosta, ever improved, garnered two helpers. A rough and ready Ajax team was next up but again had trouble scoring on Port Perry. The girls scored four times to Ajax's one and headed into Saturday need- ing another win to'advance. Whitby had the misfortune of going against a pumped Shepstone team and lost 9-3. Kim Wilson scored twice and had three assists while Cait Hellingman scored the hat trick. Lauren Guthrie played great defence and was rewarded with three assists. Sunderland was up next but didn't fare any better as Port Perry won 8-1 to advance to the final. A confident Victoria Sturgess stormed in on the Whitby goalie and roofed a backhander to score. Kim and Amanda had four point games while Victoria also had two assists. On to the final. Ajax came out hard but Lyndsay helped Port weather the opening storm then Amanda Curry put on a show. She scored five times to lead Port Perry to its fourth gold medal at these regionals. Kim Wilson won the series M.V.P. and was very deserving. The future of ringette in Port Perry is rather uncertain but there is no uncertainty in the fact that I have enjoyed coaching and teaching these girls over the years and I sus- pect I will miss it dearly.
