Temperatures reaching 25C (75F) also contributed to the ice disappearing sooner than expected. Those living along the shoreline were able to watch as the huge body of ice moved north, and in many places ice was pushed 10 or more feet high along the shoreline. April 12 becomes the official day the ice left the lake this year, and while not the latest ever record- ed, the last time it left this late was in 1989. The lat- est date ever recorded, April 29, was set in 1965. Five years ago, Lake Scugog was basking under sunny skies by March 28, one of only a dozen times the ice disappeared during the month of March since records started being compiled by The Port Perry Star in 1872. The earliest the ice left Lake Scugog was on March 11, 1983. For the record, here's a list of the dates the ice has left Lake Scugog since 1872.
