16 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, April 17, 2001 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" ~ Playwright seeks musical collaborator By Travis Gray Port Perry Star If you love music, write music and play music, Gary Stone wants you. Mr. Stone, a semi-retired educational assistant and stay at-home parent, needs someone to arrange the songs for his musical, 'A House A Home'. He's thought up the melodies for the songs, but needs some- one to collaborate with. The musical, Mr. Stone's first, is about a man named John who has just celebrat- ed his 50th birthday in the house he grew up in. "He moves into the house when he's a young boy and he lives through his high school years, and then he moves away," Mr. Stone said in an interview last week. "He gets married and (goes through) all the other events of his life and comes back after his parents have died. "Instead of selling the house they (John and his wife Lisa) decide to move back in, and it triggers all these memories." The songs in the play deal with a wide variety of subjects. 'First Love' is a ~ single humourous number that considers the adventure of young romance, while 'Birth of a Child' deals with preg- nancy and birth from both the parents' and the baby's view. Mr. Stone is also current- ly working on a drama titled Angel. He calls it a play with songs because Angel will have only six to eight songs. A House A Home, mean- while, has 18 songs. Mr. Stone won't divulge much about Angel, because it is a work in progress.
