"Is there justification to turn the area into a commercial sector? Should we tym a whole side street into a parking lot? There has to be a mixture of residential and commer- cial there," said Councillor Pearce. "Why would we go to back lot commercial when there is so much commercial zoned on the 7A corri- dor? I'm not sure we're there yet at this point as a community where we can start tearing down houses and turning them into parking lots." Regional Councillor Ken Carruthers also argued that the stretch along Hwy. 7A near Mr. Nitsa"s properties is already congested. He doesn't think it would be wise to have additional traffic attempting to make turns. During the meeting, four residents in the area who would be affected by the expansion stood before council and publicly opposed the plan. Scugog Mayor Doug Moffatt acknowledged that plenty of work has to be done before Mr. Nitsa gets any approval from the township. "Obviously there's a lot of work to be done before this moves forward. Make sure you pay attention to the neighbours and their concerns," Mayor Moffatt told Mr. Nitsa. "We need to make sure this is workable, and if it's not workable, it's not going to happen. This sort of thing has to be move more smoothly, not faster."
